great post thanks for the info; hey what boards did you bring and which one (size) did you primarily use??? planning a trip for next summer and trying to find a good group to bring. thanks
I brought 4 boards total.
6'8" Byrne thruster. My step-up board for bigger swell.
6'2" Santa Cruz Barney. My go-to board for anything under 6 ft.
6"0 Fish. Super wide, slippery and floaty, great for gobbling up waves when it's less than perfect.
8'6" Becker performance longboard.
Awesome for small to overhead surf.
I feel like you need to bring a board for every possible condition. On this trip I rode my 6'8" Byrne the most. When I finally got good swell, it was plenty big, and the 6'8" was perfect to handle it.
The Fish saw a lot of action, especially at the southern breaks at Punta Rosarito. In the afternoon the wind blows offshore there, creating long, lazy rights that peel all the way into the bay. It's not a very steep or punchy wave, so the fish (or even longboard) is great to keep up your speed. Also, the rides are so long it's nice to have a board you can paddle easily, as you'll have to cover some ground!
My advice? Bring as many boards as you can!!

honestly, you never know what you'll end up with. If you can only bring 1, make it a bigger thruster with some heft and thickness to it, something floaty but still maneuverable. The worst thing is to get great, huge waves, but be outgunned on your 6'0 shredder.
Oh! Just reread your post. Going in summer? Bring longboards. The south swells hit the 7 sisters and you'll have **************' endless rights waist-chest high. Longboard, egg or fun board, fish, anything big and bouyant.
Anyways. Hope that helped

good luck on your travels.
