Over the weekend Suckafish, MdPhoenix, and myself went to Bald Eagle State Forest located in central PA. It's on both sides of I-80, and a number of smaller forests are located with in.

I had first found out about the area from some guys on Expedition Portal almost a year ago and finally get a chance to get out their and explore it. We spend 2 nights out their, drove around for over 100 miles, and still didn't get a chance to see it all! But the areas we were able to make it to, were well worth it. Some very nice overlooks, weather was pretty much perfect, and some of the trails actually testes our skills a little bit.

If anyone is interested, and would like some more info. please let me know. I have a map with the roads highlighted. Some trails aren't worth checking out, others are.

First trail was Sand Mountain Rd. Has a killer camp site at the bottom! Started off smooth, but got a little rockier towards the bottom

Coolest camp site ever! Don't know what the rock formation used to be. Set of 5 steps, to walls, then some switch backs that lead up and eventually dead end.

Negro Hollow Rd. Starts off pretty rocky, little tight in a few spots, and pretty muddy towards the end.

Camp site 2. At the beginning of a trail called Duncan Tr. If you like pinstriping then go down this trail! Some light rain Saturday evening. Tarp, and nice fire, we were set!

Day 3 was great. Slight drizzle off and on, and some cool fog made for some great pictures! Trail for the day was Kammerdiner Tr. Tight in some spots, some mud, and lots of stream crossings.

That first camp site did look really nice... I'll have to put that area on my to-do list since it's probably only 3-4 hrs away...

I love that area, hope I can get back soon.

Also, the "Authorized Vehicle" decals are great... Have you ever successfully used them as an excuse?

Thanks guys. Was definitely a very nice and relaxing trip. Would like to make another trip out and explore the miles of other trails we didn't get to see this time.

Thanks. Haven't been in a situation yet where I could use it as an excuse, hopefully I never am. I'm allowed to turn around in the highway medians though! haha:wings:

Definitely a great park. Only wish I had taken my FJ there more often when I was at Penn State.

Looks like you had a good time.

East coast trips

It's nice to see some posts of trips on the East coast--I was starting to think that all trails were in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, & New Mexico!
