Hey Guys,

I just bought this Bamtam trailer this past weekend http://offcamber4wd.org/forum/index...ction=dlattach;topic=6034.0;attach=6944;image

Now, what to do with it? Rarely do these come up for sale here in the southeast so I jumped on it when I read the ad. The trailer has had some good rehab done to it-new floor, new tires, new bearings, added cross brace underneath, etc. I'm planning to repaint it to match my Discovery, but what would you guys do first? I have some cosmetic work to do before repainting, but overall it is in good shape, especially considering it's supposed age. It was advertised as a 1944, but how can you really tell? It still has the serial tag on the front panel, but is their a repository that categorizes these civilian trailers?

Has anyone had success with the "do-it-yourself" bedliner kits? I don't want to pay $300 to have the tub sprayed if I can do it myself somewhat similarly.

I plan to use this for camping, kayaking and potentially a couple of very long trips. I have one I'm working on for the future-Great Sand Dunes, CO. But that is a little off in the future, but I will be using this trailer.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

By the way...

The trailer also came with the original military type rims and Cooper tires. The tires are in good shape and just need new tubes. If anyone is interested in them please let me know.

Also, the original wooden arches came with it too. They are in terrible shape. I was thinking about using them as a template to make a new set. Has anyone done this?

It was advertised as a 1944, but how can you really tell? It still has the serial tag on the front panel . . . .

If it is a civilian Bantam T3-C, it can't be a 1944. The T3-C wasn't introduced until 1946.

If you PM your serial number to me, I can "guesstimate" the year as I have been maintaining a database for these trailers for several years.

Also, more photos with detail of the front, sides, rear, hitch and casting, etc. will help in directing you to parts sources.

$750

Thanks, I actually paid $750 because I was responding to another ad the owner listed. I'm not concerned since I think the trailer is pretty solid as-is. The wiring and lights are new so i'm set as far as being able to use this right now. I just want to make it mine and match it to my Discovery.

I read your write-up on your build. Would you mind sharing some notes on the build of you lid? I won't be doing the metal work myself, I don't have the tools and certainly don't have the skills. I have several race shop clients that I can rely on for really trick work.

Thanks,

Chris

Nice buy, congrats! I'm finding more and more folks in Georgia on ExPo. We need to set up a meet to put eyeballs on cool trailers like this.

Georgia

I didn't realize there was anyone else from Georgia. I'll be working on the trailer for a few weekends, but most of the time I'm game for meeting up with some others in the area.

Looking forward to your plans. I still have to do allot to mine, but its getting there. I did the roll in bed liner, but If I would do it again I would of had it professionally done. Allot more durable IMHO.

Liner

My first task is to get the tailgate fixed with chains or a cable, then I would like to have it repainted. I am looking to do a liner, but I'm not sold on a $300 pro job. Seems a little costly, but in the end it is better to pay more to have it done right.

great score! these trailers are getting harder to find in decent shape. I have one that I bought a few years ago, it was in the same family since it was new, mostly original and unmolested. I have done some mild four wheeling with it in tow. the previous owner says it is a 1946 but the serial # is a bit high for that year.
