the radio is no wouxon by any means & I thought my wouxons were cheaply made compared to my Icoms

in my home I can hardly hear or access the repeater that the others can

selectivity seems nill

its really a cheap radio & I'm surprised people actually like them, if you're willing to make sacrifices

it is what it is & just my opinion

maybe you got a bad copy? I picked up one of the UV-B5 radios, but I couldn't turn the volume down 100%, there was always sound coming through, even with volume all the way down. The volume was very sensitive as well. I figured it was broken, so I sent it back and got another one, it had the exact same problems. Returned that one too.

If not, that's to bad. I know a lot of Hams have negative views of the Baofeng radios, and while they do leave a lot to be desired, these radios provide a VERY low barrier to entry to get up and running (albeit in limited capacities).


Looking to try to find a good used FT-1DR to use vs the UV-5R I had been using.

I am far from an expert, I have UV5R, and while you are correct, it is not on par with Kenwoods, and Icoms I have owned, for 40 bucks, it is a pretty nice radio.
