Basic Noobie Questions

I am considering build a 4wd van to replace my beloved '97 4wd F150. I want to have something to haul my bike to the dez and be able to sleep out of the elements.

I have a line on a '94 F350 donor vehicle: cheap, runs, low miles, 4wd, gas engine, single rear wheels. Is this a good platform from which to get the axles, transfer case, etc? Will these components work with a U-Joint kit or will I have to fabricate the hangers, steering components and other pieces? I have access to a wide variety of fab tools and welding equipment so making bits and pieces is not a big deal to me, except for the time factor. If someone else has perfected it and I can afford it, I'll buy it rather than make it.

Any recommendations on the van? I am leaning toward a '97 or later passenger van so as to be able to use it for other purposes than just a moto van. I assume an E350 would be the best choice but would a E250 work as well? Any model years to avoid?

Thanks in advance for your input and advice. I really enjoy reading the posts on this site.

Welcome to ExPo! rexWRX is correct, all of my components are built around the 99-04 axle. Nothing wrong with the 94 axle, I use the later model because it's easier to come by & you can retain the ABS if you like. Either the E250 or 350 will work just fine.

AFAIK, the only difference between a 250 and 350 van is in the springs and the GVWR that allows. Not many years even had a 250 passenger, if any.
