The TJ and my Fav the LJ moved this little bugger into some new territory with it's Coils sprung suspension and they really are GREAT trail rigs. I'd say they're completely peerless here in the States. Nothing is this size and this built coming off the showroom floor.

then Ma mopar goes and drops the biggest tease of all time... The J8 and the JT. And once again we in N.America get none of it (although no one get's the JT yet). I love this thing. I'm not as into the JK, but this is one REALLY cool truck. It's every thing I like: Over built, mid Wheel-base, diesel powered etc...

I love the JT as well, such a neat truck reminiscant of the CJ8 P/U.

The jeep YJ just doesn't get the credit it deserves... But the flip side is they're cheap as dirt and they still have all the aftermarket support that all Jeep's enjoy. They're a really great bargin 4x4. While I don't like the square headlights, that's a pretty small complaint eh ;)

Now how about the Suzuki Samurai. THere's another BRILLIANT little bargin of a 4x4. Not so good for hauling alot of stuff, bu thtey're GREAT on the trail. Swap in a VW TDi and you're looking at one really really cool truck IMO.

Now I've gotta admit that if you're just gonna ask what's the best 4x4 in general... The Uni-Mog is at the top of the list if there are no paramaters or limits... They are simply amazing and I think every 4wd enthusiast should go out of their way to get behind the wheel of one even for a few minutes...
Having used tham as Wildland Fire Engines, I've gotten to play with them in some really fun terrrain and in some high pressure situations and they NEVER let us down. Gotta love the big tractor that you can drive down the road. The biggest lim itations are all the mods you have to do to them to make them go down the road at anything over say 50mph. That and the older smaller models that male great trail rigs are quite underpowered. But hey, they're pretty much unlike anything else.

These "little" guy's are smaller than you'd think and give you all the Mog capability but in a package that can fit on tighter trails. I love the second one one...

Along those same lines is the Volvo C303. These are really neat, portal Axles, dual Lockers, high cube capacity... THese would make really fun Expo Rigs. Probably need to do an engine swap but...

The Pinzgauer is simillar to the C303 and is also equiped with dual Lockers. Again, the major issue with alot of these old Millitary trucks is the lack of power and sound deadening IMO, but as 4wd vehicles, they're pretty amazing.

Once again, DakartiEd comes up big with his rig "the Phoenix" sadly, Ed was selling this thing last I saw... Bummer man, but hey at least you got to have one if even for a short while eh

Certainly Land Rover makes a good performing 4x4...

They may not be as bullet proof as some others, but this varries and relies mainly on diligent maintanence. The Camel Trophy proves that they're more than capable even without big huge tires and big horse power.

And in that list of Iconic 4x4's that includes the Jeeps and Land Cruisers, the name Land Rover is found as well. The series and later defenders are pretty much synonamous with Expeditions and the "bush" eh...

I personaly find Defenders in N.America to be what I consider bad deals interms of their cost to performance ratio, but they are still very good 4x4's price aside. Coil springs make them flex very well. They do however lack lockers like some of the others so they're behind in that respect.

Still, they're pretty gorgeous to me, as ugly utilitarian trucks go (wich to me IS beautiful).

OK, I take it back, this is one SWEET truck... I still think they're overpriced here in the US, but MAN that is one NEAT truck eh.

Ok I've got to go back... I hit on the 70Series Landcruisers, and briefly on DakartiEd's beautiful 40Series, but really EVERY single series of LandCruiser has been a keeper in my Book...

The 40 although not the first Landcruiser is probably the easiest to identify for most people and is pretty much the Symbol and starting point of the Landcruiser as a legendary 4x4.

Beautiful

Then the 55... For some reason this is one of my favorites to see built up... They're not that common, but when I see one I kow what it is from a mile away...

This looks like an awesome example.

the 60Series... Great truck yet again, and one I'm relly looking into getting in the next year or so. Great off-road and a great platform to build and expo rig on that can still tackle some very technical trails.
I would love to drive any of these...

...The FJ80... I think most folks here know how awesome these are. Arguably one of the most well outfitted Expo 4x4's in N.America right off the bat.
