Best 'Aggressive AT' Tires?

The main players in the aggressive AT market seem to be the GY Duratracs, and Cooper ST Maxx. Some other solid choices appear to be the new Mickey Thompson ATZ P3s and the unreleased BFG AT KO2s (no idea when they'll be available). Haven't seen much feedback on the P3s.

Looking for tires that fit between an AT tire and a full blown MT tread. Hankook MT looks like it might also fit into this range as it's a more mild MT with smaller and closer spaced tread blocks.

Any others that should be added to the list? Feedback on any of these would be great!

I'm on my second set of Toyo Open Country AT2 Xtreems.
The first set wore fast but the treadlife warranty gave me a second set at about half price. I liked them enough to go for it.
Met an employee from the Toyo plant that made them and they said that my new set should wear better... ...I take that to mean that they might've done something wrong with the initial batch...

I'm running 285/75-17, a 34". The Xtremes only come in certain sizes and have a more aggressive tread than the plain AT2s. The load range is E and the sidewalls are 3-ply.

Good looking tire - similar to some of the other modern AT designs but with more tread void. Checked the site and they don't have the Extreme tread option in 285/75/16s - will have to keep an eye on them to see if they bring one out.

Not On Point but . . .

I am on my second set of BF Goodrich's All-Terrain T/A KO ("KO" for Key benefit On-and Off-road). The tire has great traction and control on and off the road and outstanding durability and great wear with regular rotation, rebalance of the tired and wheel alignment.

A plus is the 3-ply polyester cord sidewall plies) construction for strength and durability.

WORTHY OF NOTE: While most BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements (and are branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol), selected tires do not. If that is important to you.

I purchased my tires through a BF Goodrich dealer to ensure their manufacture date was not more than 6 months old and the mountain/snowflake symbol.

YES! If the 285/75R16 were the Extreme variety, they would be on the top of my want list, as-is, the Cooper ST/Maxx and the GY Duratracs are about tied.

Digitaldelay, I had a set in 31x10.5 on my 1992 f150. They were awesome for the year and a half I had them before I sold the truck. Not horribly noisy, great off road and in snow.

I put about 5000kms on Nitto Terrain grappler driving across canada couple of weeks ago.. So far they are amazing in snow and on ice, road noise is decent much better than i had thought and they are good on highway. Havent yet had a chance to try them on mud or other surface.

Maybe this thread will help me out to. Sorry if its a thread jack :)

I'm also looking for new tires for our new in 31x10.5x15 flavor. This jeep is daily driven in southern Cali. Through desert sand, rock, mud & snow. We try to trade dirt whenever possible & there's alot of really soft sand out here? As well as mild rocks and sheet/slate rock. So looking for a well rounded tire without it being a full on mud terrain.

I'm looking at
Dynapro ATM ($145) (I read consistently the cooper at3 is better & weighs less & rides better..so its on the bottom half of my list)
cooper at3s ($138/tire) (probably top contender..except the mastercraft atx seems to have wider voids?)
Mastercraft axt ($139/tire)(cooper off brand? Cheaper practically the same form what I've read? Same things I th wider voids? Speculate on these?)
firestone destination AT's. ($138/tire)

I've run bfg loyaly in the past without much issues. Always loved them, but now decided there may be something better out there for cheaper or even the same cost. I love how aggressive the shoulder of the bfg AT's is & they've done extremely well for everything I've gone through. Yes ive searched this thread as well as comparing others online. I didn't put the bfgs on the list for this round...well cause like I said I know them. I know what to expect, I know how to make them last ect ect. I want to run a different tire this go around.

What's people's personal experience with each and maybe recommend a tire for me?

I had a set of the DuraTracs, they were awesome. They performed great in everything except thick mud. They wore very well, 30,000 miles and a lot of offroad abuse and they still had 60% tread when I sold them. The only reason I sold them is to move to a 35" KM2 on a dedicated trail truck.
If I had to buy a set of tires tomorrow for an easy offroad/overland truck I'd buy the DuraTracs.

Have a set of Hankook ATMs on our Pathfinder and they have been very good for us. Wearing well and good wet weather traction. Have done well in the small amount of snow/ice mix we get here. Good on dry trails and on gravel roads. Nothing negative to say about them.

Think I'll try a set of Falken Rocky Mountains for that truck next time around (same as Wild Peak available from Discount Tire). They look to be one of the best buys for an AT - especially if you buy the Discount Tire version. Looks like their 31/10.5s are $133 shipped and no sales tax!

I had the wild peaks and they looked alright, but were pretty soft. And the sipping only goes to around 50% after that they were slicks damn near. Hated them for that.

Any opinion on the courser atx vs the cooper at3s?

I’m really liking the Goodyear Fierce Attitude tires I bought for my K10 last tire purchase. I know they are actually classified as an M/T tire but I consider them more of an aggressive A/T tire, just a tad more aggressive than a Duratrac. They perform well in just about everything I’ve had them on so far (mud, snow, sand, slick rock, and even the highway). The best part is they come in Load Range E!

I only have about 3,000 miles on them so far but they still look like new after a trip to the Mohave Rd and Death Valley and home to Colorado. With the truck being heavy in the rear with a Detroit locker, prior tires usually show significant wear by now. So far so good with these Fierce Attitude tires.

Mine are 315/75R16 Load Range E purchased at Sam’s Club. 0% interest for 6 months on the Sam’s card at the time was what really attracted me to try them. Glad I did, I love them so far!
