Best expo tyre?

Hi again :sombrero:

Didn't the NATO use 900-20's on lots of their trucks? We have some old DAF's at work and I believe they have 900-20's on them.

Tread pattern is about the same is Simex Jungle Trekker. I've got no idea about quality, treadlife and that sort of things... and I quess handling, especially when wet isn't exactly that great... But who knows, maybe an option if you're going the 20" rims route?

If we are going to talk cost wise, what would be the "cheapest" to do?
I know 9.00x16 XZL's cost 250 or 375 depending on retread or not.
Lets just take the new price of the 9.00's (other tires are also new) that totals up to 2250,- euro without a spare tire.

What does it cost to get some 20" wheels made and a set of 6 20" tires?

I already made up my mind and am going to order a set of 9.00 XZL's, yet to decide if it will be retread or not. But looking at the prices it will probably the retreads.

2 more (Michelin) ideas:
275/80R20 XZL 37.0" equivalent to 10.5R20
325/85R16 XML 38.7" A bit wide for 6 or 7" wide rim, designed for 8-9" rim; but they have been successfully installed on narrower rims. I know these are readily available, at least in North America (we get less variety in Michelin military tires than Europe; for example 7.50R16 XZL is never seen here, and my 395/85R20 XZLs are hard but not impossible to find), in the slightly used state from surplus dealers.
The 325s (55kg) would be my second choice after the 11.00s(49kg). I have trouble believing that a European Michelin dealer can't come up with the 11.00s, but maybe so...
The 325s have a footprint only 4% bigger than the 11.00s. They do have a 100kph speed rating, but with your tiny load you could add 5 psi and safely go faster I am sure.

Well I have talked to Michelin here twice, they don't even have the XZL 11.00/R16 in their intern catalogue! And haven't been able to tell me anything! Then I talked to a tire dealer, who called michelin, and he got the same result...
I've just searched every Danish Michelin site and they list the XZL but not the XML.
So that might be the same problem...
It looks good though! And if I can find some I'd gladly have the rims changed to 9"

Hi Toy-Roverlander!
I just looked at what we use here and that's like 385/R20 which is too big...

Hi Bas
I've written Vrakking about the 11.00/R16 but they haven't answered... Maybe you could ask them when you pic yours up? mmmm...XZL:drool:

But I'll keep looking though! I simply won't settle for the old Goodyear crap I have on! (Nothing against Goodyear, I suspect you can't blame them that the tires they made 35 years ago is a bit stiff...)

I called them last friday about their opening hours, they were closed friday (thursday too because of Queens Day) and are normally open monday-friday on regular hours, so that is probably 9-17.
Since I can't just hop in my Vitara and stuff 6 XZL's in the back... :(
Would have been nice if they were open on saturday.

Don't know yet when I am going to pick up some XZL's... depends on when they have them in stock, when I can get a day off from work and I need to rent a van (or trailer, but then I have to fix the hitch wiring first).

I finally got through to a guy in Michelin who could help me with the XZL 11.00/R16:victory:

They're not availiable here, in Scandinavia or Germany.
But they could order them on special delivery from France. So far, so good! Three weeks delivery but that's okay!

The price: 1,075 USD per tire PLUS 25% sales tax PLUS environmental fee...

I should'nt have bought a 6X6... tires for a 1X1 would have been just about within the budget.

:yikes: Those things are like twice as expensive as the 9.00
Any news from Vrakking? Talked to them today, they have the 9.00 in stock, lots of new and 4 retread's.
So I'll be picking up a set this week, or next week.

Nope, no news from them... I'll do some more research on it... But please ask them about the 11.00 when you go back there...

:wings:
Update on the XLZ's, they are big, and heavy, and big and very heavy :D
No need to go to a fitness centre, just put a couple XZL's in the back of a TGB.

I asked about the 11.00's they only had 5 used one's and are probably sold to someone in Belgium.
He does have a lot of new 11.00 XL's they are about 350 euro a piece excl taxes and stuff.

A couple post ago I said the 9.00 cost 375,- new, but that should be around 325,- incl taxes.

Bump!

I have noticed that some used tire shops in the US has the elusive Michelin XZL 11.00/R16. One is Gays Tire service...
Does anybody have any experience with such places or/and an idea about price?

And I cannot find out what shipping would cost... I knop UPS/fedex etc. is way too expensive, but what about pallet freight by sea?

Any input would be appreciated!
