I need a recovery kit to toss in my 2007 Tacoma, it is getting a M8000 winch this weekend. I was looking at the ARB recovery kit. Any other suggestions?

Honestly I get by with 3 shackles, a tree strap, a pulley block, and a recovery strap in most situations. Most of the time it's ust a tree strap and a shackle though. Here in the Northeast there is almost always something close to hook up to.

Really depends on where you plan on getting stuck!

It all depends on the environment. I am in the desert alot. There is not much to winch off of. So I will be getting a pull pal to add too my basic kit. The ARB is nice. Viking offroad makes a nice one too.

I see you're in Los Gatos... For the Sierra's the winch with a tree saver, pulley (or 2 if you want to get fancy) and shackles will usually get you by. Less if you're with friends when you wheel.

For the desert, the pull pal would be good I think unless you're with others.

While the offered kits are nice, I've come to realize I can put one together with what I need for far less simply because I don't need everything they include... although the bags are nice LOL.

Ironman makes a nice basic kit for about $90 or so. You can build a great one for about $150 or the full boat ARB one.
I have the small ARB bag, 2 shackles, recovery strap, Sven saw, foldable shovel, Hi Lift and work gloves. Got a lot of it new from Craigslist. Know your terrain to buy the right parts.

Haven't ever heard of Ironman, probably because it's crap. But I know the basic kit at Dan's Depot has everything you need and more. I wouldn't trust buying stuff from Craigslist, because you don't know how legit they are and if they actually were made from that certain company or just a chinese rip off.
Nothing like SPAM first thing in the morning.

if you think i'm spamming you must be mentally retarded. i just replied to this thread because the guy was asking about recovery kits... sheesh, pull your panties out of your butt.

Dude!!! Chill....

People think your spamming because your recommended a product that has NOTHING to do with vehicle recovery.

I don't see any Recovery gear at Dans Depot. I don't think the para cord in the basic kit will pull out a 5000 pound truck. If you've never herd of Ironman how can you call it crap? At least they have things that are made to recover a vehicle.

I would learn what a recovery kit is before bashing one brand and then suggesting another product.

I guess I'm not so retarded LOL...

FWIW, Ironman is a well regarded 4x4 product manufacturer who offers recovery kits among other things like suspension upgrades, etc.

Thanks for the replies! Yes this is for winch recovery not survival. I am well prepared for the impending zombie apocalypse though.

Regarding recovery kits, I am in a variety of terrains and conditions. I will check out some of the suggestions, thanks!
