Best suburban base to start with?

Youre wasting your time. He has posted that a cam swap 5.3 can make the same power as an 8.1. Even though the 5.3 only approaches those numbers near redline while the 8.1 is making that torque at idle.

What's the BEST Suburban?

They are all JUNK as we have learned by reading this thread. Why would anyone want any generation Suburban/Yukon?

Therefore for those of us that choose to drive JUNK the best Suburban is the one YOU the buyer like. Then YOU can start spending money turning that "Sows Ear into a Silk Purse"!

I think the 5.3 makes plenty of power. Unless you plan to tow more than 6,000lb regularly, its a good choice.

The 5.3 does not compare to the bigger engines power wise. Even with bolt on mods (except forced induction) you are just increasing the peak power, often at the sacrifice of mid range power. Which would be a dumb decision, as a flat power curve is the most important thing for a heavy SUV.

A very important note with the IFS system. Its quite durable if you don't mess up the geometry. Excessive lifts by cranking the torsion bars will start breaking BJs and CVs quick. If you need mega lift, use a spacer or drop frame lift.

I'd go with a late square body Burb.
454 big block power.
Tons of ways to make it awesome.
