Thanks guys I really apreciate the info. I will be wheeling the river road and hopefully black gap and old ore. I'll make sure be packing warm and checking the road conditions before I go.

Hope you have big off-road lights. It's dark out there and my 130-watt KC's were the most valuable add to my Jeep for desert driving.

The wife and I have done BBNP several times and our favorite drive so far is the River Road at night. Start your trek from the west side of the park at about 4pm in the winter and go east so the sun is behind you. I found 3rd gear (lo range in my Rubi 6spd) to be perfect to catch views of wildlife and still get the trip done. It took us about 8 hrs, but we stopped a lot to watch critters as the sun went down. Fold the top back if you can and you'll see bats flying around the truck.

The River Road has given us the opportunity to see almost everything in the park except for a black bear. Seen coyotes, bobcats, a mountain lion, and more.

Enjoy!

Yeah, my IPF's got a good workout that night. We watched the sun go down just a couple miles of the highway and started making our way to the campsite. Dunno what kinda bird it was but something HUGE flew in front of me at one point.

Oh and did see a couple of small coyote's. The animal that is.:)

Good info thanks again! I actually have just installed the ipf H4 kit in the stock square locations and I have hella 500's on the roof rack. :safari-rig: Kinda like this one except with lights. And thats good because I'm leaving on the 20th from fayetteville, AR at about 5am and I still wont be there until well after dark that night.

Amazing!!

Just got back today ,and I'm without words to describe Big Bend. The view from the window is breathtaking. I will be posting pics soon. Black Gap was a lot of fun! Not too challenging but well worth the trip. Hot springs were a much needed relief. Man it was cold at night though.

Also I want to thank everyone who gave me recommendations on the trip. It would not have been the same without them.

Pics up by the end of the week hopefully. (still on my friends cards we were using his 1d for those into cameras)

Me and some guys are heading to BBNP to do some exploring on the dualsports the second week of January 08. I had no idea that Texas had so much to offer, from some of the pics the landscape appears to be very diverse, something that I am looking forward to.
