Black Friday Ambo

That's an awesome idea! I am feeling the crunch right now as spring approaches, but I am going to keep that I'm mind for next winter.

The funny thing is the snow has the ambo trapped, but it makes getting off the roof, and working on the sides much easier.

Alright guys I will start gutting the donor type 1 ambulance tomorrow around 5 eastern time. I'll start another thread and post photos once I get there. Plan is to start by removing anything delicate from the interior followed by tearing down to the frame tomorrow night. Electrical system to follow Saturday morning.

I say plan because I cut the crap out of my thumb with a razor-knife yesterday and I'm really worried about how long it will hold up during demo.

Second batch of steps came from Northern Tool and they are as bad as the first. Thanks for nothing guys! Looks like I'm blasting them after all.

Alex, I'm sorry to hear about your thumb. That's going to make it pretty hard to grip things...like tools. :( Of course, a little duct tape will fix anything. :) I'll be looking forward to seeing what kind of treasures you manage to salvage.

When you start the thread for that, will you post a link on this one please? I'm subscribed to this one and that way I won't have to go look for it. Thanks!

Sure! Fair warning though I was shipped 2 sets and both have chipping paint. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200330977_200330977
Tony used chrome and I think has had better luck.

Here's a shot of the stripped roof.

Looks like that's where I left my razor knife the other day. Guess I didn't look high and low enough!

That's funny! Better get it off of there pretty quickly though, or you'll have a rust stain on your new shiny aluminum roof.

Here are the goodies from the ambulance I gutted this weekend that will be working their way into the build.

New cab switch panel and aluminum housing box. This will let me remove the bulky Med-Tec console that makes it very hard to get in and out of the seats when going to/from the box. I'm hoping it is also better illuminated. Medtec used these old school strips that light up blue and stick on to the back of the display. They are great in the box, but burned out in the cab making it impossible to read most of the panel at night.

Shutdown timer. This would be great for the future espar unit on cold nights.

This will let me work inside off shore power without wasting electricity.

Finally a full house battery system including some serious wiring. I took the batteries as well, but they are from 07 so I'm not expecting too much from them. At least I won't have to pay for the core deposit on the next set of batteries.

Once the owner is done with the rest I'll hopefully be getting a set of speakers so I can use the PA system.

I also grabbed a full set of tail lights.

Definitely not as much as I hoped for.

That's sweet! And so shiny!

So my center console sucks (to put it mildly). Here's what I am working with.

Can't get in or out of the seat from the inside without folding like an accordion.

Now lets see where we are at without that literal dog house.

Now to find a new spot for the switch panel.

Not bad! Decent fit even.

Now, does anyone have any reason why I can't move the panel wiring bundle over to be inline with these stock wires?

Then I can stash everything behind the panel box.

Nice seats, I wish I had something like that in my F250! Did you have those recovered or is that original?

I don't see any reason why you can't move those wires, especially since you will have to disconnect them in order to use the new panel box anyway. I would just be cautious of excess engine heat and protect the wires as best you can.

I have such a migraine....

They are original to me lol. No idea where they are from. Seems like way too much effort for an ambulance company to redo them.

Ha, ha, just swing on by and I'll wire that up for you.

At least you have individual switches to work with, and not that integrated push button crap that Tom and I have.
