Blue Collar Ford--Help needed!

At Overland Journey we are taking on a new project, The Blue Collar Ford. Im building this into a great all around expedition rig. Something to drive back and forth to work, school, hardware store, grocery store and still explore the back country on the weekends. Since our suburban will be getting shipped around the world, this will be my daily driver here in the US. Has to do it all. Best of all.......it was my fathers truck! So we already have a ton of memories built into it.

So what do you think a all around expedition rig has to have? What would you like to see built into the truck?

Well....... Suspension is my favorite, and it already sounds like you have some one ton plans. I would throw a 60 or Sterling 10.25 in the rear, and build a radius arm D60 up front. Get some C-forgings from a late 70's bronco D44, bore them to the tube diameter of the 60, and install them on the D60. Then you can go with almost 100% factory parts. Reliable, strong, somewhat simple.... Just my 2 cents, I love spending everyone else's $$$$. ---chris

Made my way over here and have been reading for a while, Ron, great website by the way.. I would think a flat bed with cab over rack would be a great look, i am looking forward to the build, even tho i am a Dodge guy!

Ive really been looking into the flatbeds lately. Im still undecided but am playing with the idea of a custom alumn flatbed.

The thing that I don't like about flat beds is all of that wasted space under the bed is now visible. I'd feel compelled to fill it with something. How about a slide-out kitchen on the right side (under the bed and above the frame rail) and a slide out work table/bench on the left? Or a really huge fuel tank. Or a ~3kw genset in that space. Or some.......

shhhhh. Your squashing on my surprise ideas!LOL. Just kidding, but we have been sketching out some ideas with similar plans.

I'm agreeing with the 60 or a sterling 10.25 in the rear and a 60 up front, can't go wrong with that combo. Nothing to add really, but I will be watching this build, most definitely.
