Blue Ridge reservoir Aug 06

My wife and I did a fun little trip to Blue Ridge reservoir in AZ this past weekend. We were expecting to get some rain and we definitely did. We took the canoe and despite the rain, managed to get in some quality paddling time.

A few pics here

Great trip report, great pic's!

I've had the float tube on Blue Ridge - beautiful area!

That looks like a ocean going kayak - big sucker!

I know you had to have a fun time. Blue Ridge area is a favorite of ours. Good camping and many trails to explore between the lake and the Rim. Glad they are getting some rain up there, been dry for too long.

Very nice and relaxing!

Looks like you guys also got to do some mild offroading, see any wildlife???

Thanks guys. Pretty cool that many of you have been here too.

Louis, yes we did see some wildlife. On the first day we saw a lot of wild turkey and a big raptor but I couldn't tell what (it was flying away from me, gliding low... may have even been an owl). On the second day we saw quite a few deer. One came into our camp area in the morning and was browsing. At the lake we saw a lot of ospreys. We had a great time watching them (and listening too - they were screaming a lot). There were lots of nests at the lake. Saw lots of cool birds too, including a small one with a blue tail and we're not sure what it was. Various lizards, jackrabbits, squirrels and stuff too.

hi, looks great! i've actually read your review of the cooper discoverer stt's, and am seriously considering a set myself. i'm curious about how they handled the wet rainy conditions. i live in a very wet part of the world (vancouver island, 10+ ft/year), and would love to hear how those tires reacted in those conditions. thanks! oh and i apologize if this is neither the time nor place...i'm new here.

Hi there, I don't think I have had a chance to say welcome to the forum

WELCOME to ExPo

The Coopers have done great in the rain and wet. An impressive tire.

I will quote a different forum post from a fellow named Chet who lives in Cobble Hill, BC. He runs 30" Cooper STTs on his '91 suzuki sidekick with locker, lift, winch, etc...

"I have some winter driving reports! In the last month I have been out in the snow twice with them. At 12 psi they did OK in 6-8" of snow. Any deeper than that and I started to hop badly or just spin and sink. This last weekend I tried 6 psi! what a difference. They rock! I actually floated on top on 2' of snow and had tons of traction. I did multiple stop starts on hills where I was afraid I wouldn't get rolling again.

Wet pavement is by far their strong point. I can slam the brakes on in the rain and come to a controlled stop. with the stock mud and snow tires (ya right!) I just slid."

I haven't been there yet, but want to see it someday. The photos I've seen and comments I hear about Vancouver island are always impressive. The closest I have been to it was the north side of the Olympic peninsula.

i love it here, the winter is LONG and wet, but it's the playground i never seem to tire of. lots and lots of places to explore, it's actually quite a large and often remote island. if anyone is up this way, i'd be more than happy to meet up with you and help if i can.

ps. bajataco, i saw your review of the tires, and of course saw your truck, which led me to this site! serendipity! sorry for the hijack, i'll go back to my cave now...

LOL!

Hey, I'm glad it worked out! Ahhh, thanks for the pics. Beautiful stuff. Whenever I make it that way, I will have to contact you. Keep enjoying your paradise and don't be afraid to share a little bit of your adventure with us.

(btw, I guess the server where the pics are hosted doesn't allow hot-linking images. I just got red "x"s. Had to copy/paste URLs)
