Bogert safe jack, bottle jack

I bought mine when they had a discount before Christmas. Awesome piece of kit. The only issue I had was finding a jack that had the right diameter top to fit the extensions.

I know these serve a different purpose, but, how many are going be using these instead of a hi-lift?

I plan on using both. Want the Hilift with Bogert stabilizer kit to lift the vehicle, then the Bogert bottle jack set up to act as a jack stand while I work underneath the vehicle. I don't trust my Hilift enough to work under the vehicle while it's supported by the jack itself.

. . . I don't trust my Hilift enough to work under the vehicle while it's supported by the jack itself.

I don't think its a question of trusting a Hi Lift enough. One should never climb under a rig lifted by a Hi Lift without jack stands or similar support.

Personally, I won't be climbing under my vehicle supported only by a bottle jack, either. I take that pretty seriously.

I won't even use Harbor Freight jack stands, as that breaks my "no cheap tools where failure can kill you" rule.

The Bogert stuff looks like quality kit, but climbing under a car supported only by a jack is a no-no. Fortunately, my van has enough clearance that I can (normally) work on almost anything with the wheels on the ground (except the wheels/tires, obviously, but I don't go under for that.). If I'm ever in a situation where something is broke bad enough that need to crawl under while the van is raised up, I'll be having a long hard think about it...

If I actually make it to Overland Expo will Bogert have complete Safe Jack kits including the bottle jack for sale?

I'm with ya herbie. Its a matter of far am I willing to walk vs. the risk of working with just a jack supporting it. Hopefully I don't have to make that choice.

I'm completely with you, however the Bogart system does give an extra option with regards to using the bottle jack as a support. You already have a broad base, and the extension system would allow you to have the vehicle weight on the jack without extending the ram. This eliminates at least one point of failure. That being said, I'd still think three times, and exhaust my other options before I did it.
