Are you talking about highway 5 itself as it leaves Coco's and continues on down to highway 1? I am planning a trip there in November and will be passing by Coco's. I couldn't tell if your video was actually 5 or if you picked an alternate route. I'd love to stay on the dirt!

I have been wearing out GE! Also bought the Almanac. Pretty much taking a few weeks vacation with no plans other than to get to San Felipe for fish tacos with a buddy and start driving south. I have found a few ghost towns and missions to see. Other than than, no plans, no worries.

Not to be a downer but there's plenty to worry about down there. People forget there is still a drug war going on. Lots and lots of murders in La Paz and Cabo recently. Lots of meth use among the fishermen. Not saying you're gonna get into trouble, but always stay vigilant down there. Also there is an on going protest on labor issues. Right now the highway is closed just past San Vicente.

The Almanac is an invaluable tool, Ian had one and we took pictures of the pages when we split up so we had some kind of map! No plans and no worries is the way to go!
Good points, keep yourself clean and avoid trouble. We never had any problems and never once felt uncomfortable, bad situations can happen anywhere, use your best judgement and if the situation doesn't feel right get out! To me the slight risk is still worth the reward!

There is a drug war going on right here in the US. I use to work in narcotics interdiction.
It could get into most of that trouble by venturing into the back streets of Vegas. I stay pretty up to date with the folks over on Bajanomad as well. That is an invaluable source of news. Not that I don't agree with you that vigilance and paying attention to your entire surroundings are good practice. We won't play around in the border towns either. I am all about that beach!
I have had a few request on the hammock. It's no hocus pocus Magic. 1.75" x .120 wall DOM welded into the bumper ends at as close to a 45* angle as you can get and a 5' chunk of 1.5" x.120 wall DOM for the poles. Cut, weld, enjoy.

Any negatives to this method? What did you use for rain protection? And how was your hang angle?
I've got a Warbonette Blackbird and a Hennesy Cub, with Warbonette tarps. Was wondering if using the tarps would be hard with wanting to be close to the truck. Maybe roof connect tarps would work best? But that further complicates things.
