Bought truck what do I do?

Hi just bought a Mitsubishi FG yahoo! But the truck comes with a dump box that is used for landscapers. Any ideas what I could do with it? The box originally cost $11000 to build. Included are the pictures of the truck with box.

Those boxes and lift mechanisms are heavy. I would recommend removing it selling the system. Someone will buy it, if the price is right.

Even though these trucks have a high payload, their is no advantage of having unnecessary weight.

Best of luck with the project.

What to do

Actually what I mean by my original post is, How would you go about selling something like that? Who would buy it? Who would be the perspective buyer.

Congrats on the new truck! What are your plans for a camper?
As far as the existing bed goes I'd suggest http://www.truckpaper.com/
and of coarse craigslist. Also if you have a local meduim duty truck dealer you might inform them of your desire to sell this bed.

Landscapers may be a good target audience. Maybe chat with a commercial truck dealer and see if they know of any repeat clients that might be interested in purchase from ya. Provide a finders fee to boost their motivation to find a buyer for ya.

craigs list,, ebay. Which Vancouver are you in? Washington or BC?

If BC, Western Mechanical in Abbotsford install dump bodies etc. they may have some one wanting it.

That is so cool!
an intrinsically stable torsion free mounting specifically designed for the truck; built by a professional.
A single axis leveller (or getter outa bedder)
Depending where the toilet is you can empty it without even touching it (composting or waste tank)
You can have the over cab bed (SUCH a space saver) without compromising the cab tilt. Just be sure to have a hand or electric pump as backup; you're going to look silly if you can't tilt cos you're engine's kaput.

As long as you run all the lines to the back before going into the camper, it also makes it much easier to demount if you need to change truck, or live in during repairs.

I swear if my truck had come with a tipper mechanism I would have kept it.

Back to the OP: What do you care how much it cost to build; commercial bodybuilders are prohibitively expensive the moment it's a custom build.
I promise you it'll sell for about the same amount as you'll have to pay to have a torsion free subframe made up; if that.
It cost almost as much to remove my CRANE and flatbed as I got for them in the end.
Cut the sides off, cut away the sheet steel panels of the floor and you have the ideal subframe, torsion free and ready to build your box onto. Built by a pro, specifically for your truck; what more could you want?
Hell, if you go for welded steel frame don't even cut the floor plates out, just insulate onto them.

That's just what I'd do, others are allowed their ideas too.

X2. Unless you could swap it for a utility bed, which as you can see on my truck, I'm particularly partial too.

Thanks, good info. But if I keep the lift mechanism/base for my conversion, will it provide protection for the truck frame so I won't twist it on rough roads?

Also, I have heard selling the box would be difficult because it is made for the fg with the curve in the frame. Apparently altering it for use with a regular fuso would even take quite a bit of work. Can anyone comment on this? It is a shame to destroy a nice box like this!

My utility box is definitely specific to an FG. I assume your dump is too. Certainly if you put a couple of u-bolts on either side of the dump frame up front, it would function in a similar manner to my utility box which has been working fine for almost 200k.

I can't really have a look at the box yet as I bought this truck sight unseen but will see the mechanism/frame on tuesday.

Take a look when you get the truck. My box was mounted with a 7 inch spacer (not too high tech, 2 4"x4" stacked on top of each other) to make the frame 'level'. You might have the same kind of set-up.
