Box Rocket '03 DC Tacoma Build

Apparently Goodyear MTRs with Kevlar will not hold up against a carpet knife blade. Ran over one yesterday and destroyed one of the tires on the truck. It was replaced 100% with road hazard warranty, but the rest of the set was too worn to just get one tire so I bought a full set. MTR's were not available right now so I went back to a set of KM2s. I was happy with my KM2s I had before but I did prefer the MTRs in the rocks. Oh well. The KM2s will work just fine I think.

Anyone need a set of 3 MTRs with 40% tread? Would be great for a trailer project. 33x12.50 R15

spent the weekend at my in-laws new cabin in the Uintah mountains of Utah. Such a cool place. I will definitely be spending a fair amount of time up there. The cabin is in an area that I haven't spent a lot of time so I'll be doing a lot of exploration.

Where at in the Uintahs? We head that way too explore most of the time but never hear about too many people going up there. It would be nice to get a group of Utah guys to go up there sometime rather than the typical AF Canyon, Moab, or the Area west of Utah Lake.

The cabin is just above Woodland and just south of the mirror lake hwy so that whole area is something I'd like to explore. I really don't know the type of trails that are there yet, but there seem to be quite a few. Cedar Hollow is an ATV trail that looks like it could accomodate trucks. I also have had plans to head up Norway Flats for quite a while. Lots of other options too.

I grew up in Oakley, just at the south end of that valley about 10 miles from Woodland and we used to deer hunt in both Cedar Hollow and Norway Flats it has been awhile since I have been there, but I remember cruising around on the 4-wheelers all over that area. Nothing really technical but as far as getting out and seeing scenery it is great. Lots of wildlife and tons of places to camp. From what I remember most of the roads should accommodate a smaller vehicle just fine. If you go southeast from woodland on SR 35 over wolf creek pass it opens up quite a bit too. I haven't explored that area during the summer but have gone on snowmobiles from Woodland over to Heber and even down into Hanna/Tabiona and trying those roads/routes in the truck is on my list.

Box,

I was hearing from a buddy who claims to be in the know that the MTR-k i on the way out. Discontinued.. Did your tire place give you any info towards that?

I have no idea. That's the first I've heard of that and personally I don't buy it.

I installed a set of Light Racing Upper Control Arms yesterday. Pretty simple install and I like the sealed balljoint on the LR arms over the open uniballs on most other aftermarket arms. The salt here in Utah during the winter just kills those uniballs. I don't have any real feedback yet but I was able to regain caster which was my main goal. I was at 0* caster before changing to the LR arms, and now I have it set to 3* caster so it already has a better feel on the road. Looking forward to getting some miles on them in the dirt and see what differences (if any) I can see from the stock arms.

That was my reaction to. I called bull****. He claimed he was drinking beers with a rep, close friend of his since high school. I mentioned that they changed the OLD design for these newer tread pattern many years ago. Anyways. I got mine and the build date was 2014, so I still am skeptical.

I heard the same thing from my account rep at a national tire distributor. Take that for what it's worth.

Prepping for CruiserFest next week. Really looking forward to it. I'll be joining the City of Rocks run on Wednesday before the main event on Saturday. Bringing some Tepui goodies for the raffle too. Should be a great time. As part of my prep, I swapped out my UCAs on the Tacoma. Went with a set of Light Racing arms. Helped a bunch with caster and I've got that set at 3* for now which feels really nice. When I was having the alignment done I found an inner tie rod has started to wiggle loose at the threads. Glad I caught that. Not exactly sure how that happened but I got it all fixed up.

forgot I didn't put a photo up with the new KM2s. They are quite a bit quieter than the MTRs and feel really nice on the road, but I gotta say I really liked the MTRs in the dirt. I'm anxious to get these out in the dirt next week and see how they feel.

I absolutely love my 33x10.5 KM2's on my 01 DC (185k miles). Great road manners and very impressive off the beaten path as well, even with being open/open. I just did my steering rack bushings and noticed my LCA bushings are all cracked. Those are next on my list and the Light Racing uppers are certainly on my wish list. I really like the sealed bj versus the open concept of the uniball style.

Your truck build has given me alot of great idea's for mine, including the truck purchase

Truck is looking great as always! any reason you chose to go with the KM2 over trying another tire? I've been eyeing the dynapro MT's myself. Seems like those, along with the ST/MAXX and toyos are gaining more and more in popularity.

I love how low profile your winch bumper is! Also, you keeping the shell off the bed for a while?
