Getting ready to pull the motor, tranny and transfercase.

Cleaned the engine with miratic acid. Very nice way to clean the crap off.

Muriatic Acid eh? What's the process like for that?

I use the stuff to clean masonry / concrete. I use it all the time on my driveway. (because land rover). Oil spots are easily cleaned off with it and and a pressure washer.

I figured the same thing would would on an engine. It worked great! I sprayed a little water on the engine first to dilute the acid cleaning. Then i took my spray bottle of acid and sprayed the engine down. You know its done its job when it stops smoking. Then you spray it all off with a pressure washer, wear safety equipment, latex gloves, safety glasses. Check for any other spots you may have missed. Then repeat.

Engine grim is removed and you have a shiney new engine. Ready for paint and new hoses. It didn't seem to affect the hoses, but I was going to replace them all anyway

Front clip is off. Bolts are out of the cab. Doors are sold. Ready to pull it in the garage and rip the engine, transmission and transfercase out of it.

It's out. I bought a load leveler at harbor freight. The 2 ton version. It made this a one man job. Simple. Love it.

Ok, so moving forward slowly. I had the starter tested, and as suspected, it was dead. So, I'm waiting for a new one from Amazon. Should be here on Thursday. $82 shipped. Already things are pretty cheap on this engine.

Ok, gaskets are done, Intake and valve covers. Nother else seemed bad, so I'll do more if needed. Engine is clean inside, so that a positive.

I bought a new starter $80 on Amazon. I had to helicoil one of the bolt holes, someone had broken a bolt off inside the hole. I had to drill it out and then put the helicoil.. The helicoil worked good. I tested the starter, and the engine turns over pretty good. I need to replace the glowplugs now.

I have a little more cleaning and painting to finish, then I'll slam it in, hook it up, weld in the motor mounts, and be finished. Well if the transmission and transfercase will fit in the hole, that is.

It fits. Just got it all centered up. The 700R4 has loads of room as will the transfercase. Next up, welding in the engine mounts.

Engine mounts are all welded up. The engine is holding itself in place. Next up the transmission mounts.
