Another great advantage to this engine, the military used it, so parts are everywhere. Unlike land rover parts, which are hard to get almost anywhere I go in the states. Loose an alternator in Moab? You are basically screwed until they can get one in at OReilly's. Loose anything on this engine, they will probably have it in stock. Motor mounts are easy, any big block gas chevy engine uses the same motor mounts. Water pumps are about $50, alternators usually $100 with life-time warranty. Power-steering hooks right up to the stock lines. Very minimal wiring.
Con's weighs about 350 lbs more than a stock engine. But add some stiffer springs and shocks and who cares, I can't even tell a difference in handling. I have plenty of stock RRCs around that drive, and I can't feel any difference.
If you decided to use a 700R4 parts are super cheap for a rebuild and almost any place in the USA can rebuild the transmission. I also used an NP241, found in dodge trucks everywhere. Bolts right up to the 700R4 as well. No adapters needed, just some new driveshafts with stronger u-joints than the little ones used in land rover driveshafts, and 1310 u-joints can be bought anywhere.
