"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

Two reasons, 1. I really swear by their products, I have great luck, and 2. Warranty/customer service. I get great customer service etc.

I'm with you. I have had the Teraflex big brakes for awhile now and love them. Most of the products on my Jeep are Tereflex. Would choose then any day over OEM or MOPAR..

I've been kicking around the idea of running more aggressive pads on the stock rotors(front and rear) to see how that improves braking performance.
The trade off is faster rotor wear, and usually more brake dust. Depending on the brake system, it can sometimes induce noise as well.

My thought for trying this is to keep the unsprung and rotating mass down, over installing larger rotors. It's also one heck of a lot cheaper... if it works well enough.

See I wasn't lying about mpg :D So happy it's treating you well John! I miss it a lot, but I'm super happy you guys are enjoying it. And I'm waiting for puppy+Jeep pics :)

But what were you guys getting when you were running the 35" duratracs? Same or better?

Seems like this needs to be solved with a good old fashioned drag race. Now to find two similar jeeps with 4.10s. One on 35" ko2s and one with 37s.

MTSN, you seem a bit sensitive.

By your logic, 35s should provide better fuel economy than the OEM 32s because it would bring my 4.10s closer to the stock 3.21 gear ratio.

In theory that is true if they had the same weight and rolling resistance and aerodynamics. And in my experience driving with a jeep with that set up that is true, by 2mpg.

My theory is that our oem km tires don't have the best rolling resistance and aren't ideal for the 4.10 gearing unless you're towing. 32" street tires with 3.78 gearing would probably get us near 20mpg. Also the rotational mass isn't as important once it gets up to speed. So the 35 or 37s greater weight would be less important than their effect on gearing and rolling resistance.

On the plus side, now we have no excuse to hold onto our stock sized tires.

I looked at Toyo open country RT tires tonight. They seem pretty nice. Too bad they're still pretty heavy.

Another interesting idea someone shared with me is running Toyo Rt/MT tires in 285/75r18. You'd need an 18" wheel but they're effectively 35x11.5" tires. And are actually taller than 35" ko2s.

But they're a little more expensive and have a smaller sidewall.

So anyway, I decided on 40" Iroks

New to expedition portal and first post

Just discovered this thread a couple days ago and been burning threw the pages. Wish I found this earlier. I am like you on all but I want 37s. I have 35s now and building my rig for 37s. Upgraded my track bar with the JKS and working on the steering shaft brace this weekend. Next will be a beefier tie rod and drag link. Looking at synergy but mind not made up yet. Then hydraulic steering and finally the dynotrack 44. No I prob don't need this to run 37s. But I Like to error on the safe side. And by the time I'm done the 35s will be worn out and I'll need new tires anyway.

That's what I'd do to run 37s also. That's why I'm going with 35s ;)

Bruce finally got some big boy tires. I decided to go with the 35x12.5r17 BFG AT KO2s for a host of reasons thoroughly discussed in previous posts. I'm glad I did. The size seems about perfect for my AEV 3.5 SC suspension. My Jeep always tends to be a little lower than others with the same lift (aka heavy), so the size looks right. I'm still probably going to add a 1/2" spacer in the rear to leave it out a bit.

A big thanks to ZigsRig for sending me the longer tire carrier adjustment bolt needed to install the OEM wheel on the AEV tire carrier.

I ended up getting America's Tires to agree to install them on the OEM wheels for the price 4Wheel Parts quoted me a several months ago before the price hike on this tire.

So far so good. The ride seems smoother and quieter but also jostles me around more. Maybe due to the E-rated sidewalls. I'll have to drop the tire pressure further until the sidewall breaks in some. I'm running 30psi right now. Going to try 28 or so. Seems like I cut my shovel a little too short for the new tires.

Also finally got 2 of the 3 bumper panels installed. The PS corner is too bent to stay in. I'll have to order a replacement.

Wow, that really looks nice! You're making me rethink my decision (at least I THOUGHT I had decided!) to go with a 2.5" AEV lift.

I love that you've stayed with the stock Rubi wheels. If I'm reading what you said correctly, you don't have spacers on there? No rubbing?

Looks great! I have the K02s as well, and love them. Took some getting used to, I think the weight made a bigger difference than I thought. But after a while you won't even notice it. Enjoy.

I have 1.5 inch spidertrax spacers. Which now come in black. 1.25" supposedly works also. That's the backspacing AEV wheels use. I'll probably get AEV wheels at some point. But I already gouged up the stock wheels and like the way they look. Andy from adventure portal (who I got my original lift from) ran this wheel tire set up for years without issue. I think it'll be fine. Finding a shop to mount them is difficult.

Yeah. Acceleration isn't too bad. But braking is pretty poor. Next brake service I'm going to the molar big break kit. Bad brakes are a huge liability in LA traffic. My brother just totaled his car rear ending a pickup because he put off getting replacing worn brakes.

That does look awesome!
Should be excellent off road too.
Top picture with it up on jacks, makes it look like you had a whole pit crew working on it. :)

Looks great with the 35s! I think you'll be happy with 28psi - that's what I settled on with both the KO2s and the Duratracs, and that seemed to be the ideal balance among ride comfort, mileage, and wear.
