I had to do the 4x4 switch and encoder ring replacement on mine as well. Could you elaborate on the pump issue you mentioned above?

Got tired of holding up the hatch and rear window, and ordered some gas struts. Working great now.

I replaced my liftgate struts last year and now my wife can't close the lift gate by herself! But on the plus side I no longer bump my head on it when it's open.

They are pretty strong

I'm ok with that. Though I'll let my wife drive my Burb, I don't mind if she decides it's too much trouble. (Don't tell her I said that)
