Bug out challenge

I dont know, with a virus outbreak, its not like there will not be running water or electricity. I get the supplies as we are a On Demand market and we will be reliant on trucking to deliver food and supplies to any community in any state. Sure, we can go out and hunt, but so will all the other folks that can shoot and hunt.
Basic services will be intact, I cannot state who I work for but I can tell you that we are prepared to respond to emergencies and ensure the basic service my company provides will stay in service.
I am more worried about community or neighborhood quarantines. If they implement that type of response it will not be likely we will be let out of the area. It would be nice if civility would prevail, but highly doubtful.

The city I live in is barely civil under normal circumstances, probably would not take much set things off. Hope very much to be wrong, but the crime is crazy here. School my wife works at just had a drive by shooting, scary stuff.

Well I mean I have about 15 years of sailing experience....

I just move too much for a sailboat to be an option right now, and am away too much for me to meet the maintenance requirements of boat ownership. I have considered joining a yacht club but man they were might expensive, but there is one down in San Diego that seemed reasonable.
No need to join you just need to be available crew in Socal you can sail 5 days a week just crewing. Show up and go. Same in SF which is where I do it but kids are killing my racing schedule ?

I've seen a few forums where I can just sign up to help crew for a bit, but I'll have to DM you and pick your brain!

Most of my sailing is on, ahem... bigger boats.

Yep each region has a pickup crew site. List your “realistic” skills and availability. Best to start out on low key week day beer can events. Short low key and you can spy the boats you don’t want to sail on before you get stuck on a longer race and think it was a bad call.

Ok, this is just friggin cool! I’d do this in a heartbeat......not much of an opportunity in the Rockies.

I hoped this thread would not ever become relevant, but after shopping this weekend for some basic groceries and seeing the incredible stupidity unfold before my eyes I am beginning to wonder !

No kidding.

To a certain extent, what-if thinking is always going to be relevant. Humans have gotten much better at controlling the variables of their environments, but I doubt any of us will see a time when every potential threat to normalcy is under our complete control. Even then, we have a history of creating problems where they didn't exist. As we're seeing, maintaining some level of awareness and preparedness is a very good idea.

The shopping rush will die out in a week or two. There won't be shortages of most products, and folks can only store so much TP and pasta in their kitchens.
You want to see crazy, wait until this is over and you have millions of people trying to return their toilet paper to Walmart. The real riots will break out then.

Nah, TP doesn't ever spoil, so unless they don't have room to store it, most folks would just slowly use it up (over years!). Now the folks who bought 1000 masks or bottle of hand sanitizer? Maybe...

I bought fresh fruit and veggies just yesterday and I was shocked by the panic buying. I get buying some non perishable stuff, or even going out to REI and getting some mountain house but ma'am there is no way you're going to need 60 tins of spam.

Is it riding season yet?
I think the only possibility of this whole thing going crazy is if they quarantine an area, and people start looting/attempting to take supplies from others. Wouldn't be for very long, either, i'm sure the national guard would be there fairly quickly to quell that, like the hurricanes/katrina/etc
