BUILD: 2017 Tundra TRD Pro by the Good Life In Ten

I'll be working on the build over the next month or two. So far I have just installed the fender flares and got the truck cap installed yesterday.

Monday I will be taking it in to have the winch, light bars, and some other wiring done including the air compressor and ham radio.

Initially I though I was going to go with the 4Runner TRD Pro, but then last summer after a multi-day backpacking trip of Maroon Bells Four Pass Loop (32 miles with 4 climbs in 3 days) I had tossed my hiking boots in the back of my vehicle at that time, crashed at a hotel, and the next morning the whole car smelled SOO bad!! LOL. Decided for my wife's sake we would need to be able to separate those smells so decided to go with a truck. I'm 6'2" with long limbs and didn't fit comfortably in the Tacoma so I landed on the Tundra.

I consider this 2017 TRD Pro my investment trophy. I have never bought a car with less than 100,000 miles for myself (my current car had over 190k on it and I had a truck with 203k on it). Spending money on a new car before would have been money taken away from from our real estate investments plans, so I kept buying old but decent cars until I reached my goal of financial freedom and being supported by the passive income from our rental properties. Well, that goal has been reached, and so now it was time to treat myself to a brand new Tundra TRD Pro. It's an awesome beast! Looking forward to planning many adventures and living free.

I got the hidden winch mount from SDHQ installed. Winch is Smittybilt X20 12K wireless. Cascadia 4x4 flipster front license plate cover to cover it all up.

Slowly but surely getting adventure ready!

It is! Thought about tires and wheels?

I'm not going to change anything right away. It seems pretty capable as is and it's so smooth in the highway, and being from Kansas City we'll have a lot of highway time to get to places. We'll do some trips first and see how it fares. I think we'll have to to add some leafs to the back after it's built out and has that extra weight, but that's the only thing I'll touch right away.

I wouldn't advocate mud tires unless someone *really* needs them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Pro come with P rated light duty tires? You can get larger and more durable (LT load range E) tires that will still perform well on the street. Plus like all big trucks, I think the Tundra looks a hell of a lot better with bigger tires. Off road the greater durability along with 1-1.5" of extra ground clearance will be nice.

I'm still not sure exactly what I want, but something in the 34.5-35" diameter range (stock is 32") will usually fit without major mods provided you choose 9" (or less) rims with +25mm to +50mm offset (stock is +60mm). Some that get good reviews and are said to be quiet and smooth riding are Nitto Dura Grappler (street tread), Nitto Ridge Grappler, Falken A/T3W, Yokohama Geolander A/T G105, and Hankook Dynapro ATM, Copper AT3, and BFGoodrich KO2. https://tiresize.com/tiresizes/35-inch-tires/
