Build Thread: 2005 Land Cruiser 100 Series

I've been riding, driving and racing many types of off-road vehicles through the years. I started out riding an XR 80 in 2nd grade and moved up from there. For the past 10+ years I've been racing off-road cars, it's great fun but very demanding on your time and wallet.
My wife and I now have a 2yr old boy and another on the way. The Land Cruiser seems like the perfect fit for a low key family 4X4. It'll be the rig that I can first take my boys out on the trails in. My first mods will be suspension, tires, wheels, floor mats, seat covers, window tint and 2nd battery.
Here are a couple photos of how she sits right now. All parts for "Phase 1" have been ordered so I hope to have them on in the next 2 weeks.

See Pic #3 - Here's how she looks as of 5/29/2009

Thanks for posting up. Good luck with the build; I for one, will be very interested in your progress, as I have an LX470 very similar to yours. It'll be good to see what you do.

Nice choice & beautiful truck! I have a 2000 LC I've been modding for 3 1/2 years now. I love it! OME lift, Slee sliders, TJM front bumper, Nitto 295/75 R16 Terra Grapplers, SOR seat covers, etc. It has been terrific on and off road for the last 70k. Enjoy the sickness!

I find the 100 series one of the best for Exp. build because it is very comfortable, and a very reliable vehicle. Good luck with your build and take your time and do it up right.

What system are you using for the second battery?

Really interested in your feedback with the 4.88's. I have the 295 Toyo's on 16" rims and would love to regear it someday.

With a heavily modded (i.e. bumpers, sliders, skid plates, drawers, etc) regearing was a must for me. My only regret, mostly when pulling the AT trailer, is not going to 5.29's instead of 4.88's. Redline pushed from 3.7X to 4.88's on his 33'd 4Runner and it's gearing is perfect!

jgholden: I am curious to know how 4.88's feel on the '05 ('03+ LC's have 4.10 R&P whereas '99-'02 have 4.30's) platform with 34" instead of 35's: That might be the perfect gearing setup for a modded 100.

Good luck, of course, with your build. Its fun watching others mod away!

I've gotta recommend the National Luna dual battery system...really, really nice...and all there in the kit! Just add a second battery and tray and wire it up!

The build is moving along a little slow. I got my tires, but the Diffs are still waiting for parts.
Here's a couple photos of the Cross Drilled Brakes, powder coated rotors and calipers.

It's getting close, the Cruiser should be back on the road next week.
I'll post pics and specs next week.

The longer this project took, the more I added......it was a mean cycle, but I did get a lot done.
