Good progress today - rear axle and front steering all pulled. Fuel tank off to be trimmed, most of the major destruction done. Tomorrow hope to get the transfer case in and rear axle so we can measure for the rear driveshaft.

Day 3, and the axles are on. If I had wheels (they come Thursday), it would be rolling. Two of us working on it 5-6 hours a day with a couple of hiccups (took a long time to get stuff back from powder coater).

Tomorrow will be shocks, brake lines, and measuring/ordering the drive shafts. Our local drive shaft shop should be able to turn them around pretty quick.

I know Chris shows a video of doing it with a larger crew that knew what they were doing in a day, but we feel pretty good being where we are after 2 guys x 16 hours.

When I swapped out the stock stereo to an aftermarket double-din unit, I was intrigued by the idatalink maestro compatibility. I decided to order the add-on (it was cheap, less than $100 with harness) and have been very pleased so far. It allows me to display gauges from the Canbus on the head unit, and also do some other things like monitor tire pressures, display OBD2 error codes, clear codes, etc.

If you are into gadgets and considering a new head unit, one that is idatalink compatible might be worth considering.

Can you tell more info on the idatalink maestro. Exactly what you ordered with part numbers, etc. A short video of it working would be awesome as well. I'm looking to replace the stereo in my '11 and this might be an option. I am also curious if anyone else has replaced the steering wheel on the vans with one from a f-series? I love the new dash design, but the wheel makes it seem very dated. I also love the steering wheel controls in my VW and would like to have that compatibility as well if its possible. mgmetalworks maybe?

I'll work on getting a video - the van is almost converted to 4WD but waiting on driveshafts. I really like being able to do things like check tire pressures v. rely on an idiot light.

re: the steering wheel - there was an option for a steering wheel with more controls (I just have the cruise controls) that idatalink supports. I've wondered about upgrades as well.

Subscribed to thread. I have a 2010 6.0 EB also with very similar plans.

Excellent, congrats. I'm really glad that I did the 4x4 conversion myself using the UJOR kit. No better way to really get to know the vehicle.

I've been making a lot of progress with the conversion, but understandably doing a lot of things that have been done before so not bothering to talk about it. I've been working on dash indicators and lighting, and haven't seen this particular approach before so wanted to share. I'm using the upfitter switches, but you could use any switches to drive this.

Nice work! I like the visual indicator, seems to be a handy visual for folks running lockers.

Thanks, I like having the indicators all in one location. I plan on adding in an air pressure display to the right of it. I've got the sending unit but am waiting on the LED segments to come in.
