Cabellas camp kitchen adventure

After looking around, I decided to buy the camp kitchen I found in the cabellas catalog. I ordered it on the 18th, and they emailed me it would arrive on the 27th. It was sitting in the living room when I walked in on the 22nd. I started setting it up in the basement to check it out, and the thing is huge. I found that the upper shelf had been installed upside down, and due to it being riveted in, it was there. I called the customer service number they had sent me in the confirmation email. On the third ring, I had a real person on the line. After a quick explanation of my problem the rep told me to box it back up and they would have UPS here to grab it the next day. According to the rep my new one was sent out on Friday.

Overall a good customer service experience.

The kitchen is huge with removeable soft side bags that hang down under each wing to hold your gear, and the poles hold your lantern(s).
The removeable side compartments were the selling point for me. I can pack them in advance and hang them up after we get to our campsite.

Oh yeah,

I'd say a little over 36"x36" and 3 to 4" thick. Slightly less thickness with the side bags out of it. Took me about 5 minutes the first time out of the box, probably the same to repack it. I imagine it would be less time with a little familiarity. With the side compartments out on their own, it would probably take a couple of minutes to repack.

I've checked those out a couple times at our local Cabelas... very cool indeed! They are a little on the "light duty" side, but for occasional use I think it is a great product & a killer price!

I'll have the wife send me pictures of it so I can post them up. I am out of town for training for a couple of weeks. She said the new one arrived yesterday

Hopefully you don't have animals where you camp or else you would have to take all the food out every night. I can imagine what some squirrels would do to the soft sides of that thing, not to mention raccoons or bear.

I wanted to buy that one, but they were out of stock @ the time. I settled for the little brother version.

I used to have a Cabellas Camp Kitchen. I ended up getting rid of it beause it was too big for my needs for most of my trips. It got used mostly on my snake trips where it doubled as a bar/snake processing table. It held up to abuse pretty well. :costumed-smiley-007

I was checking out one of these kitchens at Calebas and was told by one of the employees that they really were not made well. Many had been returned because of rivets pulling through the particle board tops.
The hinges were bending as well as a bunch of other issues.
I ended up buying a Coleman version and was very happy with it.

I think i payed $149.00 for it last summer.

I've got one of those and am pretty happy with it. Takes a few minutes to set up, folds down into a recangle that is the size of the table top by maybe 6" thick. Appears to be sturdy enough, haven't had any issues with it (though I've not used it too many times).

It's crazy huge when setup, I only take it when I'm going to be part of a group where it might benefit everybody, or if I'm going to be setting up camp for more than a night. It's big enough to do some pretty elaborate cooking on, too. Once I set it up out in the middle of nowhere and did homework on it... :costumed-smiley-007

The first one they sent me had some damage to it. I think the sent me a returned one by mistake.

I got the 2nd one today. Customer service was great. They did not do the "we will charge you and credit upon receipt". They sent one out the day I called, before UPS picked up the old one. Very friendly to deal with. It is big, but I cant wait to use it on the trail.

Exact same thing happened to me. It is a bit to big for my regular family, but sometimes we get together with extended family for a huge campout and I do most of the cooking for 20+. It worked awesome for that on our last campout.
