I've purchased an item from Dave in the past. Great guy to deal with.
If you pick something up in person you get the added bonus of drooling over his Expo gear.

Dave,

Do you know if the Uniden fits in a single DIN configuration in the 80 series?

Dave,

Do you know if the Uniden fits in a single DIN configuration in the 80 series?

It should fit heightwise no problem... but width is going to be silly... you'll need to make a plate to take up the space.. it's not as wide as a radio. I don't know if you follow me? And as far as depth is concerned..that depends what's in the stereo pocket in your rig. If you are talking about your 80 series.. your fine... we have a monster front fire cobra in our dash.

EDIT: Just checked... the Uniden is 6 3/4" deep. The Cobra 18 WX ST we have in our dash is 6 7/8". So it's going to be close. I don't remember us having much wiggle room... you could always hang it out the dash a 1/4" and nobody would know.

Do you know if either of those radios have a significantly better sounding speaker?

I don't think they've changed the speaker at all Greg. To tell you the truth, if you have either one of these over a rollbar you'll be fine.. but if you sink them into a dash or under a seat you'll need a external speaker.

What year is your 80?
I think 94+ it will fit in place of the ashtray.

At least '95 IIRC. I own a '94. The Uniden will not slide in the ashtray w/o serious cutting. Super little radio and great price Dave!

I have put my Uniden 520 (same footprint as the 510) in a single din slot. As Dave basically described above, the height is not an issue. I filled in the gaps on either side with some 'matching' plastic. Here's a pic. External speaker is right below - cheap Radio Trash, but it's just fine. With the single din radio HU you've got the pocket below. I did some cutting on the top of that pocket to fit the radio in place. You'll need a 90 degree adapter for the antenna as it's tight back there in the cruisers.

Here's my install thread from Mud.

Sounds good Brian, we appreciate it.

We can get a few other models too, so if you want something else.. just say the word.

Only, Cobra.... so their magnetic mount and their window mount... which both are really.. not that good. I'd stick to a Wilson 1000 or a K40.. from the Solder Joint.
