Camel Trophy Disco1

So I'm guessing this topic has been covered for many of you guys so apologies upfront; it's basically new to me.

I just bought my first disco a few weeks back, 98 Disco1. Pristine rig; only 77k miles on it and babied by a soccer mom throughout the years. Only things I've had to replace are some oil cooler lines and tranny lines, gasket here and there. (I'll start a build thread soon enough):sombrero:

So here's my intention for the post. I will be doing basic overland as a means to get away from the city. Nothing over-kill on wheelin and def. not looking for a crawler set-up. I really want to maintain both form and function of the vehicle. I have come to love the camel trophy trucks and their set-up; especially for that era they ran them. For the record: I do not in any way shape or form want to "pose" this rig as a camel trophy truck. I do however want to integrate some of the same design and product to achieve both form and function.

I need some help on where to locate some of the trucks exterior products. Namely the front bumper/brushguard (Brownchurch/Mantec?) Snorkel? I realize those trucks were equipped with the 200TDI but is there a way of running the snorkel closer to the window frame? Also...steel wheels? were they the NATO wheels? Roof rack; is that the Saftey Devices? Anything you want to add, I will appreciate..any links you want to post, I will read.

Cheers!:coffeedrink:

Blake - one thing to keep in mind, the Camel Trophy trucks were set up with few upgrades to prove the capability of landies in close to stock form. Are they stock form? No, but the upgrades are not as extensive as most people think. I have to go to a b-day party now and I will post up some links when I return. In the meantime, I am sure others will chime in.:chef:

Hi there

The sorkel and sump guard are made by Mantec (http://www.mantec.co.uk/store_viewItem.cfm?ItemID=32 and http://www.mantec.co.uk/store_viewItem.cfm?ItemID=18) but the bull bar is a Safety Devices part that is no longer available. Members of the Camel Trophy Owners Club are working on producing reproductions.

The steel wheels were the deep dish heavy duy type to allow for the extra wheight and allow for interchangability with the Defender support vehicles.

The roof rack was also a Safety Devices part. The originals bolted to the roll cage, but they also produced a special edition Discovery for sale to the public which had a similar design of roofrack taht attached to the roof gutter. I understand that SD are planning on making a batch soon in response to interest from members of the CTOC.

The CTOC forum at http://forum.cameltrophy.co.uk/forum might be a good place to network with people as there are a couple of people doing similar things to you at the moment.

Cheers and good luck

Hey thanks for those links..thats pretty much what i was looking for.

Now my question regarding the snorkel, is there a way to modify the existing box, or is there another intake that would give me the same exit to match the picture I posted. Obviously the pic is dealing with a 300tdi as where we are working with a 4.0 v8.

Thanks guys.

Mantec makes a version of the snorkle for the V8, so you're in luck.
