Camp Chair Recommendations

I bought a Trekology earlier this year to have something ultra-light and similar to the Helinox w/o the $100+ price. Comfy enough for what it is but I still prefer the old fashioned sling camping chairs that are available for $15-20. I think Ours came from Walmart and have held up fine for over 10 years but we don't use them hard. The Trekology cost me $40 from Amazon in March of this year.

Btw....
Kermit chairs do not need to be broken down and put into their tiny bags each time.
When things are space restricted, they go very small, but 98% of the time ours are used as just “Folding chairs”..
We do like them a lot.

i see a lot of love out there for the Kermit chairs and would add a PLUS 1 for them

i am what i call a LARDUSS BOTTOMUSS MAXIMUSS (275#) and my Kermit chair has served me well for over 12 years

on the KLR-650, on the 1100 Beemer, on the DL-650, in the Jeep(s), in the F-350 and in the boats the stinker has gone many miles and dunn a real well job of holding my butt off the ground MANY hours/times

they ARE ground huggers and there is a learning vurve to sitting down and rising from them butt there is an accessory kit that wil bring them up to table eating height

I had been strongly considering the Helinox chairs although after borrowing one I decided it was too heavy to backpack and far too light and complicated for overlanding. There is something enjoyable when you just pull a chair out of a bag and after five seconds you are sitting comfortably in it. Last night I stopped by REI, sat in a number of chairs, and left with an REI Camp X Chair for under $40.

I think these are the best general use chairs (this style, not necessarily REI's version) on the market. I have a couple of Trekology (Helinox clones) chairs and they are great to keep in the back of the rig for picnics or short term seating but this style that you bought provides hours of comfort. Our versions came from Walmart over 10 years ago and are holding up fine. The disadvantage is bulk and weight although with the mesh back it's probably lighter than our chairs.

After going through a pile of cheap Coleman, walmart etc camp chairs we came across the King Kong chair from Alps.

They are rated to 800lb and very well built and rather inexpensive for what you are getting. They are not light or small, and I wouldn't carry one more than the distance from the rig to the campfire, but I routinely let my teenagers take them camping and they haven't broken one yet. My rather large and heavy stepfather appreciates how heavy duty and wide the chair is, no fear of buskeling it under his 300lb weight.

I hadn't heard of Kermit before and am now seriously interested in them. What are the dimensions when in "Folding Chairs" mode? I can't find these specs on their site.

I am six foot and 260 (maximal fat). Having something that would last for the rest of my camping life (and be comfortable) is my goal. I do have some space limitations in the rig...but would rather not fold them up "all the way" if I don't have to.

While they look like overkill for most of us, I do like the design. I guess my sling chairs are the lighter weight version of these.

You could always try the patio type zero gravity chair without the big outlay of $$.

I have a chronic tailbone area pain and found the zero gravity is really the only chair I can sit in (or better recline) for any length of time (tricked out with the appropriate butt pads).

I found one at RC Willey that was $750 or so. Much better than the really nice one at another furniture store that was $2400. Although, now knowing how well it works FOR ME, I wouldn't have minded paying that. The $750 one is working just fine although the motor is slow. The reclining mechanism is only motor driven. I don't know how many times I have been reclining peacefully but stuck without being able to reach the phone or get up to answer the door (in a timely manner) because the motor is slow to lift me up. It worked great for my foot surgery (being able to elevate it high enough) and my recent hip surgery. It really does help alleviate pressure on at least the lumbar spine.

I bought one of these chairs and the optional foot rest. I’ve only had it since last fall so I can’t comment on longevity, but it feels solid and it’s very comfortable, it’s my favorite camp chair so far. It does not pack up nearly as small as my helinox sunset, as it only folds flat, but it’s more comfortable than the helinox.
My wife has a GCI fireside rocker that she loves(it is comfortable, but I like a chair that sits a little higher).

Zeep, I picked it up at a rv show. Here is the US retailer website. Looks like you would have to email them and ask about buying from them, or catch them at a show. I’ve only seen them in the dark gray color.

I was wondering what type of camp chairs you all use and recommend? I am rebuilding my expo/overland trailer and I'm planning the storage compartment sizes. One of those is ear-marked for camp chairs. I'd like to buy something new and make the compartment to fit them.

I have this one and find it extremely comfortable. Not spark resistant but you could put something spark resistent on it. I made an under sheet for the legs so it doesn't sink in the sand very simple sewing project. They don't pack much small than this. 5 inches by 16 inches packed.
