To expand on your comments as well as the reviews on Outdoor Cooking, it looks like its been a bit dissapointing quality wise. What are your thoughts, worth the $90? I've got an aluminum one that I may just fix up for use, its a similar style but seems more rigid?

Is your aluminum box the one you got with the stove that's part of the box? I remember seeing a pic of that one. If that is the one it's really cool.

The top that opens to make two shelves is the main weak point that I can see right away. They don't really lay flat when opened and I think you could tweak the box with heavy items or abuse.

The overall quality seems to me to be decent, but just okay. It's not extremely robust.

I still need to get it filled with my kitchen stuff. Maybe today. I really wanted to get the kitchen out of the big Action Packer I have been using for years because it's just so unorganized.

I think this thing would be okay as long as you are careful with it and it gets stowed properly during transport. The latches on the top are also a little flimsy but that is something easily fixed or replaced I think. The whole think is held together with rivets that are easy enough to r&r. I was thinking of putting some 90 degree supports of some sort around the bottom. If I could find something like that in plastic I would want to try it.

Is it worth $90? That is a personal decision. Unfortunately I have a little expendable income and tend to buy crap I don't really need. I'd think this is not really worth that much money but it's the closest thing I've seen that looked like what I'm after for organizing my kitchen. To tell the truth I did want something that would hold the stove in the box.

Ah life is full of compromise though eh?

I'll be sure to update after an actual field test at some point.

Thanks for the insight Michael, sounds like you can tune it for your needs and be absolutely happy.

The aluminum box is seperate of my Kamp Kitchn, similar size but of different construction and sans the stove. It doesn't have much in the way of shelves which may or may not work out for me. Its pretty stout when closed up but somewhat flimsy when its opened up. I'm going to dig it out this afternoon and figure out where I'm going with it.

Yes, I am optimistic. When it's closed up it seems pretty strong.

Got any pics of your aluminum one?

I don't know much about its origin. I scored it from a fellow ExPo member. Label on it is 'Campers Kitchen - San Antonio Texas'. It too is a bit flimsy but I think I can add some supports in places to strengthen it up.

It is a nice compliment size wise to the Kamp Kitchn:

That thing is really cool Kurt, and it's a nice compliment to your Kamp Kitchen aesthetically too.

I made my first mod to mine. I set it up to go onto a slide lock. More to follow.

Very cool. I've been thinking about ways to improve the way I mount and transport mine... winning idea thus far is having a custom soft-sided bag made for the box with zippers that work with the lids of the box. We'll see.

Camp Chef mounted on a slide lock

I have a piece of plywood under the mat and I screw slide lock right through the mat into the plywood. It's worked great for my fridge for a while. The Mat however is no longer a water proof barrier.

There is just enough room for me to get my finger in to release it.

I'll be trying it out next weekend.

I like it a lot. Only been able to use it once though on a solo trip. I can tell the missus' is going to love it.

Still working out some kinks like stove placement since you can't put the stove in the top section because the fuel hose comes out the side. My stove fits exactly in the space so I think what I'll be doing is closing the lids once it's open and putting it on top or just putting the stove next to it.

It could be a little more robust, but I'll just need to take care of it and try not to tweak it out.

I'm very satisfied overall.

How big is the opening for a grill? We have a little cheap gas grill and I doubt it will fit but I might be able to modify.

Here are the pics I have up on in some earlier posts in the thread if it helps.

My stove fits in the space but has a fuel hose issue as stated earlier.

You cannot store the stove inside the box because it won't close :( - This is my only major complaint at this point, but I just bungee it to the top for now.

Is that top shelf simply riveted or does it have a weld holding it up there?

Only asking because looking at your stove up top sitting on it, if you could drill out the rivets and lower the top shelf a few inches, it looks like you could re-rivet it and be able to solve the issue with not being able to close the lid with the stove in there...Just wondering if that's do-able??

I was also wondering if you found two round aluminum poles that could attach to the fold out shelves and lock into inserts on the bottom of the sides that could help support the fold out shelves?

Again, just armchair quater backing, but ideas that popped in my head while reading through the thread
