Camp Tonneau Tent, Tonneau Camper

Just stumbled onto this on YouTube. Just like the Thair Camper I previously posted about I have zero financial interest in this company.

www.camptt.com

It’s live on Kickstarter right now. This seems like something that should have already existed commercially and I’m shocked it hasn’t. I’m tempted to order one for my Lightning since it would basically have zero effect on range.

I really like the idea a lot, but I kind of wish a company like GFC was doing it rather than another new to market camper company.

I’m sure more of these will eventually appear since it really is a great idea for a short bed truck.

Anyone have any thoughts???? The campaign is already “fully funded” but the goal was ridiculously low so…..

I think it’s a great idea. Surprised nobody has done this before.

My previous off-road rig was an ’09 DC Tacoma with a hardshell tonneau. We used a 12’ Soloman Noah’s tarp (the swoopy looking kind) to partially cover the back in rain or sunny conditions to cook on the TG. That morphed into thinking about sleeping in the bed and I worked out bungy rigging to drap the tarp over the bed and snug the sides to the wheel wells and cover the open TG.

Wouldn’t have worked in really buggy or truly terrible weather, but it worked fine. In practice though we rarely used it versus the tent, largely due to the hassle of unpacking the bed every night and setting it up. A purpose made set up would have been great though.

I would seriously consider this if done right. Looks like a great idea and I'm very interested. But yeah, I'd also feel a lot better as well if it was coming from an established company.

So I had a little communication with the founder/ owner of the company and encouraged him to stop by this thread to answer any questions and more importantly get some feedback from real world users.

He was quite responsive and helpful, and actually gave me the answer to some of the concerns I had. I still think this idea has enormous potential for a lot of people…. I’m still on the fence about plunking down $2k for it but I’ll be honest, I’ve spent more on sillier things. I will probably jump on board before the kickstarter ends since his responses validated my concerns and his plans for the V2.0 seem to be in place to fix them.

Time will tell.
