A older lady we ran into back in October at PSR in Panamint Valley. She was from overseas and heading down to Baja. She had driven all the way from the east coast. Really shows what it's all about, all she needs is her tent, stove and some peaceful scenery. The tent was just as old as she was. We wished her on a safe trip and headed on our way.

Excellent!

Great story and perfect photos to go with it. Nicely done -

What is the make and model of the tent?

That is a early-ish 90's vintage North Face 'Mountain 25' Tent. Excellent tent, I replaced it with this: (another campsite pic)

That is a Mountain Hardwear 'Trango 4'

At one time this was one of my favorite camping spots for years. From my front door only 33 miles, very private required crossing the river twice to get there. And then two years ago I was there and had not crossed the river yet. Out of nowhere the river started to rise rapidly as I watched a violent wall of water rip my spot away, trees and all. If I would of crossed the river my 80 would have been washed away with no chance of getting to the other side and saving it. Someone was watching over me that day. Later I found out that the forest service opened the dam above.

You like the Landcruiser eh? :)
Excellent spot-I like seeing the saguaro cactus along with the trees and river.

Do you still own all of those? If so, I am super envious. I long for a relatively stock 40 to commute in. That color, too.

These are pics from 1992 from a trip a took with a friend to the Gran Sabana. A Venezuelan National Park, near the Guyana/Brazilian border. The 40 in the picture was my 83 FJ40. No lockers, no big tires, no mods besides a stereo with a 6 CD changer and a couple of nice speakers.

I had dinner with some friends right there last October. Engine cooked lasagne, enjoyed while admiring the acrobatics of ravens in the updraft a few feet in front of us. My wife spotted a bobcat on some rocks at the edge to our right. We went stalking with cameras but got skunked, finding lots of scat and bunnies, but no cat.

Thanks for bringing back the memories, it has been a long winter!

Good deal...I hear you on the winter, it has snowed like hell here this last 24 hours. I am sitting in the cafeteria with students as they have delayed the opening of the school 2 hours...

I went out to that spot last fall and there was a sign stating no camping...I was sad. I liked it being my 'secret' little area.
