Canon claims an "Historic Global Announcement" on 3 November in Hollywood, CA, USA.

Let the frenzy begin...

:)

Current speculation points towards video rather than a DSLR launch in light of the location.

Even so, those of us on the still side should be getting some official news soon on the 1Ds and 5D class product upgrades.

Or at least one can hope...

;)

A new Canon body designed just for video is my guess.
Maybe even one devoted to 3D (shudder!)

Yes, quite likely an HD video camera with a very large DSLR-type imager.

Panasonic was first to market with the AG-AF100 in this category. Of course, most videographers would prefer a Canon...

There was a very interesting article about this forthcoming category by "The Masked Engineer" in a recent TV Technology... http://tvtechnology.com/article/123716

My guess, a new 4K camera, possibly multipurpose.

In an interesting spin, RED has also planned an annoucement on Nov 3rd about the final specs and shipping date of new Scarlet. Looks like there could be a good old fashion fist fight in the Hollywood.

Link to story.

All I have to say is, good luck Canon!

If the price point he mentions is correct Canon and Nikon are in for a world of hurt. Would love to see some still image landscape captures from the Scarlet. $2k for a Canon adapter though. :Wow1:

Canon's new flagship camera, the EOS-1D X.

Pretty slick Canon. I like how they merged the 1D and 1Ds lines into one. Clearly this camera is aimed right at reportage and sports pros with the cameras super high speed frame rate, moderate megapixel count and completely revamped AF system,...and of course priced at $6800. High ISO performance will probably be stellar as well in attempt to claw back some of the market the D3s stole.

I don't think it merges the lines permanently. I think there will be a 30mp 1Ds replacement in the future. Not there's much difference 18 and 30mp with the same sensor size.
I'm still happy with the 5DII. I'm more interested if the video is a big step up in the 1DX.

I lost interest in Red announcements a long time ago. Although I think both Canon and Nikon have been sleepy enough to still be vulnerable.

The camera in the iphone 4S is pretty slick. Somehow I find that more interesting than a multi-year delayed scarlet announcement.

From the press release.
"the EOS-1D X will be a high-speed multimedia juggernaut replacing both the EOS-1Ds Mark III and EOS-1D Mark IV models in Canon's lineup"

There's been a lot of chatter and comment on the move as well, most of it positive.

Can composite up to 9 images into a single image in-camera. :Wow1: Brings new meaning to the phrase straight out of the camera.

Better ergonomics-LV and multi function buttons placed next to thumb.

But definitely a sport pro's machine.

As anticipated, Canon announced the C300 movie camera, built around a 35mm sensor capable of 4000 pixels of horizontal resolution when equipped with new lenses announced at the same time. Lenses include 14.5-60mm and 30-300mm EF zoom lenses, and 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm EF prime lenses. A separate C300 camera body will be required if you want to use lenses that employ Canon's PL mount.

Note that forms of HD TV are described by the number of vertical pixels, such as 720 and 1080. For example, 1080p has 1920 pixels in each horizontal line. The 4K standard for movies captures about four times as many pixels in each frame.

The price of the new c300 camera has not been announced, but it's expected to be about $20,000 (5 times cheaper than the alternatives from Arri and RED). Delivery of the C300 is expected to start in early 2012.

Canon also showed a mockup of a 35mm still camera that will use the C300's new sensor. Looks like there will be lots of Canon 5D Mark II camera bodies on eBay next year.

I wanted to check out that 14.5-60mm lens

Then I saw that it only costs $47,499.00 :Wow1:

The 1Dx looks like a dream camera for me! 9 frames in a single image, such a fast frame rate and full frame!!!!!

RED just announced that they plan to offer a 4K video camera body for less than $10,000. It's an updated version of their Scarlet model. At first glance, the specs of the new RED model seem not as impressive as the Canon C300, but that price will make it a favorite of TV production companies. The lower resolution of TV will hide most shortcomings of the new RED camera.

I'm more excited about this possibility. :wings: I would love to have 5D Mark II if I can find a good one at an affordable price.

Problem with red they have a history of announcing product and not coming out ? or when it comes out super low availability

will be good for video people over the next few years though to see all the new stuff :)
