Canon announcement event 3 November

Would love to see some still image landscape captures from the Scarlet. $2k for a Canon adapter though. :Wow1:

This is shot with an Epic by Peter Lik. It is a stitched composite (in Photoshop) of 5k stills, the size of a large wall apparently, but the Scarlet S35 sensor would do an equal job so I thought I'd post it in response to your comment.

From this thread on RedUser.net.

There is a thread on there somewhere with a lot of still shots and landscapes but I can't recall where. BTW that price for the Canon mount was for a single piece machined titanium mount on the Epic, Scarlet introduces an aluminium one.

Honu, I have a man crush on Peter Jackson after watching his blogs (even more than before). The man has serious talent. Of course he needs it as he has to deal with the obvious shortcomings of the RED cameras, as does Steven Soderbergh et al. :bike_rider:

Cheers,

Canon= A 4K sensor but only captures at 1080p for video and 8.3 megapixel stills. Records MPEG2 at 50Mbps at 1080p 30. No raw capability.

Scarlet X= True 4K video capture and 5K still resolution or 14 megapixel capture. Records REDCODE RAW at 50MB/sec.

I'd say the Scarlet has the better spec sheet, no?

Depends on the usage I guess.. the canon has a workflow that's quicker to market.. the Red requires more storage and working with RAW files and transcoding..

For feature work, I don't see why you wouldn't go with the RED. For news gathering, documentary film, etc.. the Canon might be a better fit.. and better professional support service than Red I'm sure.

We were quite lucky to handle the new C300 today, attach a lens, power it up and do some evaluation. It is a serious camera, its shape more of a nod to Red than any other concept. Even in the short time with it the features and build made me a believer.

As image makers, we are coming into an exciting time.
