Canon EOS Rebel (should I buy for beginner)

My boss is upgrading her camera and switching to a Sony. She is thinking of selling her Canon Eos Rebel DS6041. It has the lense with UV and polorized lenses and a telephoto lens that I THINK is 55mm-200mm. She said she paid $300.00 just for the lens. She wants to sell all of it to me for $300.00

Is this a good starting place for me or should I save my money and start with a nicer body? I am looking for something with quick action shots to take of my 2 yr old and I want to start doing more landscape photos of our jeep trips.

though you didnt state which rebel, any of them are an excellent starting point for a dslr and a very good price, depending on your needs and model it is you may never need or want to advance beyond it.

She is going to let me take it home and play with it over the weekend. Anthing that I should try in particular to see if I like it? My biggest concern is being able to take photos fast. Whenever I try to take photos of my daugter they are blury becasue she moves to fast. There is an action setting and thinking that might help.

dslr's are as fast as it gets,,, but really if thats your biggest concern all you need is faster shutter speeds and you can get that from any mid level point and shoot. the benefit to a dslr is total creative control, if that interests you great, if not a dslr is a big bulky camera to take pics.
something to remember, a dslr wont take any better pics than a $100 p&s if you dont take advantage of the settings. i am still pretty new to dslr's and learning alot everyday.
