Canyon de Chelly, Labor Day weekend

I am heading down there with my Dad and Brother in Law in March. Is there a 'must see/camp' area around there you guys would recommend? Seeing this thread originally is my inspiration for going...

Hmm, sounds interesting...what's the temps gonna be like in March? The family should be thawed by then from the arctic Death Valley trip!

Not sure about the temps, but I LOVE Moab in March, and it is considerably further North.

Leaving the night of the 19th.

Mr. Moody and Ali, I remember remember wearing jeans all day when we were there on Labor Day and not being too hot. Keep in mind I live in shorts for 6 months out of the year. March may still be a little cold down in those canyons due to the lack of sunlight and the funneling action that takes place too. I think the Navajos move out of the canyons in the winter due to the cold. You should be all right though, just turn up the heater!

Thanks. Good info. I figure I can handle some cold. I usually do my Moab trips in the spring and fall, so this should be just right...cooler at night and nice during the day. I guess I should post up a 'planning' thread, as I hope to do more on the trip than just go to the Canyon deChelly...

Oh man, what a great place. We spent a day down there with a guide two summers ago, and that was just a teaser. I want to go back for a several day exploration. I recall being there in July and it really wasn't hot at all.

I remember our guide stopping at one side canyon and pointing out the petroglyph of a deer running into side canyon followed by a human with a bow followed by ... a conquistador on a horse. Simply a magical place. Wonderful people too.
