Argh! Poor little 3FE. I will have to do the same virtual salute with my equal mileaged '92.

I can't help but to think of the resources wasted, not just on the perfectly good truck being wrecked but also the resources used to creat a modern vehicle with all of its electronics, batteries, etc that utilize the latest technology. Using a Land Cruiser for 400,000 miles is going to have waaaaay less resources then replacing it 4 times at 100,000 miles a piece with a new car, or even doubling that and replacing it two times with 200,000 mile on a vehicle.

I have written my congressman to suggest another bill where they pay me to tear down my perfectly good house to build a green one. :victory: What the government could do that wouldn't cost a thing is, keep your smog regulations but let go of the standard equipment part. Let me put on fuel injection, let me do a diesel swap and actually recycle an older car that was built to last so that it gets better gas mileage and we don't have to create more crap for the insatiable consumer.

I would suggest the blame for this horror rests directly with the person who opted to trade it rather than sell it outright..

I still wonder how something with that low of miles is considered a clunker.

A clunker to me is something that is on it's last legs (engine/transmission problems, etc) and is just falling apart in general.

Why not part the cars out first then scrap them. No since it scrappage perfectly good parts.

I'd love to get my hands on something like that or an old 40.

Mee too, I commented on this over in the Cash for Clunkers thread... Like I said over there, my 4Runner with 240+K on it is less of a clun ker then some vehicles made with-in the last 10 years... I mean seriously, who throws away a perfectly good FJ62??? They're clearly not members of this board eh. I think I should move out to a farm and start a wild cruiser or wild-clunkers refuge... A place where great old rigs and cars can go to be wheeled and driven by those who love classic/older vehicles... I really just need an excuse to get out and move to the country anyway ;)

Cheers

Dave

Edit: what the HELL????? WHy are they doing this to these trucks. I mean there's like 5K in good parts and what not there and they're just running the motor dry and killing it??? I just don't get what the point is and what it proves/solves. I don't get any of this at all, it just seems so wierd. Not to mentiuon that was one CLEAN 62. I'm actually pretty mad at this crap, just further waste of my tax dollars.

Your diesel swap idea is right on target in my mind. Recycling older vehicle with a diesel is a much better idea in my eyes.

Just think about how many of these paid off good vehicles were traded in by people that will default the loan on the tax payer financed clunker program. :(

sickening....

That was about as bad as watching an animal get put down. I could only watch about 30 seconds of it, knowing what was coming. A shame the owner didnt sell that instead of trading it in for their $4500 government check. Methinks they could have gotten more than that in a private sale for such a low mileage truck.

Sad, very sad. :(

It's funny, being a Jeep owner I frequent a few Jeep related sites and there are videos on almost everyone of them with Jeeps being destroyed too.

The comments from them are almost the same. The problem we all face is that all the manufacturers for the most part don't make the kind of vehicles we tend to gravitate toward. Doesn't matter if you are a Jeep, Land Rover or Toy guy...it hurts to see them get put down.

The only good (and it doesn't justify a thing in my eyes) is that these vehicles will at least go to junk yards where parts should become a little easier and cheaper to come by.
