Cruiser Therapy: LaOutbackTrail's FJ62 Landcruiser

Also, check the fuel pressure regulator, and make sure the filter isn't plugged up, before you drop the tank.

New fuel filter, its good. Not getting fuel to the fuel filter (its under the hood). So, the problem is between the tank and the fuel filter.

While, I'm tempted to just cut the hole in the bed of the truck, I'm partial to make it look nicer and more professional to weld in the panel from an 80. I just need to find a parts truck locally that will allow me to do that.

I found a deal that I couldn't pass up....

Front and rear diffs setup for 4.88 when I [eventually] run 35s. And in the box a brand new set of Man-A-Fre add a leafs. The Leaves are a short term solution to weight capacity increase and hopefully a little height increase.

We'll see.

New fuel pump is in. I had to cut the hole in the cargo area due to seized couplings on the fuel lines. Then I had to bend and flex the fuel lines going to the pump to get it out. It wasn't fun but it was doable. So now that the new one is in, I've got fuel pressure, but now I'm suspecting that my timing is off 180*. I set the timing before I put the head back on but as I mentioned, it can be off by 180*.

It turns over and hits on about the 6th rotation but won't actually fire up.

Slowly but surely, indeed. Problem is funds and time are drying up. We're hoping to move in April, and I want this truck to be able to drive 1300 miles one way... scary proposition if you ask me. Not enough time to work out any bugs!

Nice score of the 3rds and leaves.

Don't give up on the truck, keep at it. If you sold it before the move, you will be bummed in the long run. Keep at it Scott, you got this! ;)

Yeah, certainly not going to sell it. I'll trailer it if I need to. We'll likely trailer one of the vehicles anyway... unless we sell Kacy's car or something.

I think I corrected the timing issue but still no start. Dizzy was about 180* off. I think I've got it close...

I jumpered the fuel pump and it was running. I didn't check just now, but last time I tried starting I had fuel pressure at the fuel pressure regulator and the cold start.

I've got spark, according to the spark checker light.

So, fuel and spark and timing is closer.... what am I missing?

Try priming it with some starter fluid (ether)? If it's a fuel issue, that would let you know; it should start and run for a few seconds on the ether if everything else is good.

Did you take the cam out or the timing gears off as a part of the rebuild? All put back with the timing marks lined up if you did?

Negatory.

Progress. The truck ran! Albeit, very poorly, for about 5 seconds. I may be a tooth or so off on the distributor. I may not have gotten it perfectly TDC either.

I'll keep tinkering with it tonight.

Well I had a struggle but we're running confidently now. Still need to put some water and some flush juice in the radiator to allow the truck to run for a bit and warm up. Then I suppose it will be time to check valve clearance and fine tune the timing.
