CB in Glove Box?

Has anyone tried this in a TJ/Wrangler?
I am thinking it would make a really clean install.

I've seen the ones in the centre console but nothing with it installed in the glove box.

:sombrero: I've seen it installed that way and under the drivers seat and on the overhead BEHIND the front seats, but

You want it where it's visable at a glance and easily adjustable, with sufficient air movement

The glove box, isn't the most voted for, mounting spot !!!

It'll look good and clean when not in use, but on the trail the glove box door will be bouncing around and probably annoy the hell out of anyone in the passenger seat.
Below the seat's another option, as long as you don't get into water that's too deep.
On my last jeep I had a small CB mounted to the back side of the center console, out of the way and easy to get to.
On the current jeep, I went with the cobra 75 wx st. The only part that get's mounted in the jeep is a little box about 2"x3". I've got that mounted under the little change holder at the front of the center console. I drilled a small hole in the center console for the cb cable to go through, and when I go out on rides I'll hook the cb. If not, it's in my house out of sight.

Here's another option...

It's a Miller Product CB Mount, cost a whole $24 for the mount and hardware. I've had it installed in the LJ for about 2 years and am really happy with it. It's easy to see, but out of your line of sight when driving, and it's easy to reach. Plus it's pretty darn solid and isn't wasting any space or hitting your leg.. Here's my short thread on this mount.

:sombrero: put it right above your rearview mirror, right hand access, right field of view, doesn't interfere with the rear view and it fits/sits asthetically, ********** dab in the middle!!!

I've got mine mounted under the steering column on the right and I've never had a problem with my knee hitting it, etc. I agree that placing it in the glove box can cause some problems when actually using it on the trails (i.e. door bouncing, door being in the way of passenger's knees, and need for a longer cord to accomodate length from glove box to driver's mouth).

By the way, that Miller CB mount looks pretty cool!

could consider looking at a cobra model 75 cb. all the controls are on the mic and the box is able to be mounted out of view. i ran one for a few years in my old xj and really liked it. the biggest thing i liked was that it didnt take up any room in the interior and would never know it was there when you unhooked the mic.

x2. That's what I have.

Remember, it's not so much the radio but the antenna and setting the SWR that makes or breaks a CB setup. A great radio with a crappy antenna is worthless against a cheap CB with a great antenna setup.

Good luck.

If you do go with the cobra 75, spend the extra $15 and get an external speaker. Mine is a maybe 1.5-2" and mounted on the roll bar right behind me on the drivers side. Makes it much easier to hear at highway speeds.

I love my cobra 75. Small and compact and doesn't take up valuable interior space. I mounted the small box behind the glove box right next to the fuses and ran the mic wires under the center console. I bought the 4' extension for the mic which allowed me to place the threaded end at the end of the console by the e-brake. That way I can disconnect it whenever it's not in use. I then fabbed a mic mount that attached behind the center console of the dash. The mic is within easy reach and out of the way for passengers.

This is the only pic I have and it's during the install but you'll get the idea.

Wow thanks for all the responses. I had not thought about the door bouncing around while on the trail. It looks like those Cobra 75's are the way to go.
