I don't want to hijack this thread, but if you're CTIS curious and haven't seen the system used on the Sherps, you're in for a treat - fastest I've ever seen and requires no tank or compressor ;-)

I have always wondered what that little valve block type thing on the tires is as well. I see them on some hummers but my G-Wagon with CTIS does not have them.

They work great until you rip them off in deep ruts. I had a similar system on my MB917. One of the first things to go, it was too vulnerable to damage off road.
