Charging Yeti 400 While In Pelican Case?

Hi

I’m transporting my Yeti 400, non-lithium, in a foam lined Pelican type case.

If I drilled a 12v outlet on the outside of the case and wired it to a 12v to the Yeti could I charge it while driving with the case closed?

Thanks

Hi

It’s going to be riding around the back of my pickup. I don’t have a tonneau yet.

So I thought I’d protect it for the time being by putting it in a case.

If you want weather resistance at the cable entry, Blue Sea "clams" are good, aka cable glands.

Thanks.

I’m not a battery expert but is there a concern that gases will build up if the case is closed?

Not if the battery is lithium based, cells often sealed, even completely potted.

If SLA, just make sure you don't overcharge, and
don't stick your head in there when opening the box.

Well my master plan is going up in smoke.

I did not know that the 12 V charging cable is currently unavailable.

That’s sucks you would think that would be a very common item.

I could go the inverter route but that is just adding another layer of complexity.

How’s this for my master plan.

1. I install a battery isolator.
2. I run a wire from the isolator to one of the ends of the pickup bed. Meaning the end closest to the rear passenger seat.
3. At the rear left pillar I install a flush mount female Anderson plug.

4. I install a flush mount female Anderson plug to side of pelican case.
5. I run a female to female Anderson plug between the two flush mount connectors.
6. I buy/wire a Anderson to 8mm male to charge the Yeti400.

Is this the way to do it?

Thanks for the advice.
