Chasingdreams Trailer Build

TitanPat....... Have you ever tried to leave the annex attached and close everything up to see if it would fit?

I did on my first trailer CD. I guess I could on this one too, maybe just unzip the back wall that goes against the trailer? There seems to be ample room under the travel cover. Maybe I could use a left over cargo net from when I got the 4Runner, to hold it in place..... I don't leave the bedding in the tent, so my guess would be it would fit fine room wise.

I'm back to building up the ol' "play money" account now that the main drain is over, so the annex is over getting a floor sewed in, an addtional 3" of height. The last time I put it on went much smoother than the first.

T-minus 18 days and counting till liftoff?!?!?:wings:

Took the trailer to a canvas shop and had a rain fly made for the back side of the awning. It attaches via velco, no snaps. This will hopefully keep the kitchen dry from rain blowing in the back side.

I also decided to build a small screened firebox for fire containment and to reduce wood comsumption by keeping the fire small.

More of the good stuff, very nice. Hey is that a stove oven combo? I've never seen one of those before. Nice add.

Yes, it's a combo made by Camp Chef. I got it last year and have been very pleased with it so far...... Nothing like picking fresh blueberries and having fresh blueberry muffins on the trail:chef:

once I get my valve assembly and manifold for the propane, everything will be fed bulk propane through quick disconnects. I'm making a 5-way manifold. I really want to get off of the 1lb bottle diet.

The 5 way will feed the following...
Stove/oven combo
Regular stove
Portable heater
Camp shower
Auxillary

I'm going to be ordering up the poratable heater, solar, marine charger, etc. through Martyn at AT. Seems they are out of heaters currently though:(

I haven't made up my mind whether to go with an ARB fridge and slide or an Engle fridge and slide...... Anyone have any thoughts on that? I know the Engle is "Expo Kewl" but it seems like a considerable price difference. Mind you our camping season in Alaska is about a 5 to 6 month stretch so it will be on mothballs for half a year at a stretch.

So the shake down trip for Memorial weekend was awesome! It was great to get out away from cell phone reception and "disconnect" even if only for 4 days.

The only adjustments that I see at this point that need to be made on the trailer is.....

Suspension needs to be a tad stiffer
Upgrade the foam to a softer material for the RTT mattress
Upgrade the tongue jack (Not immeadiately needed, but needs to happen)
Adjust the removable mud flaps on the tow rig
Put some lock-tite on the trailer side of the silent pin that connects the max coupler (It kept comming loose,... which eliminates the "silent" benefit)

Some trip pics.....

Very, Very Nice!!

Glad you got out and enjoyed after all that hard work.....

I ended up cutting 3 pcs. of 4" foam 26" x 52" (found a mattress out of a pop up in nice shape for 25$) and lay those down, prior to making the bed. It was perfect, slept like a baby! That is the only fault I could find with the ARB tent. My plan is to cover the pads with some Sunbrella fabric off Fleabay. I also ordered enough to sew a floor in the bottom off the annex, I found a gal right down the road who sews bimini, and boat covers, so it'll be a peice of cake.

Congratz on a great 1st run!

Thanks for the Kudos TitanPAt!:ylsmoke:

Tom..... There hasn't been a bear sighting for years in that area. To much movement and noise with ATV riders, folks camping and such. "Most" times black bears and grizz up here would just assume stay away from you. But as with any camping up here in Alaska "Bring Protection". No need in being part of any of the Alaskan Statistics:sombrero:

I asked the following question on another thread but had no replies. Perhaps some of you can comment.

I have always adhered to having no food in your tent, and to eating far away from where you sleep. But the RTT over the trailer/kitchen seems like a big draw for bears, which eventually won't care about all the ambient noise and such. The tent gets steeped in all that goodness from the blueberry muffin, bacon and eggs, fish, and other goodies you can make with your set up. How can the bears resist???

Anyone have similar concerns, or have you even had a bear encounter with your trailer/kitchen like this?

We have never had a bear encounter while camping. Even when you go camping in Valdez, AK when the salmon are running and the bears are out fishing,... they could care less about what you are cooking, they are more interested in the fish.

That being said,.... ALWAYS take care in keeping a clean campsite and have bear protection. You wear a seat belt for "in-case",.... same goes for camping in the wild.....Be prepared, use caution, and leave it better than you found it.:)
