The plug is tight and its not moving I dont understan how it keeps loosing contact?????? Anyone have ideas??? Dose the display auto shut off?? This isnt going to work on the trail if its shutting off without even moving. :Wow1:

Somewhere in this thread somebody mentioned the cig lighter end didnt fit well. So they spliced in a better one.

Yes Ive tried 3 different 12v plugs now because I read that. But its just sitting still in the barn would it loose connection without moving?????

Check your socket too. Some of them have full metal cylinders and some don't so it can be hard to make good contact.

I wrote that wrong Ive tried three different sockets used the same plug. All the sockets are full metal inside. I just went and checked on it the fridge was off again :( I unplugged it and replugged it and started right ack up. Sigh. I soke with edgestar the want me to take the faceplate off and check the connections behind it.

Mine had a the same problem. In my case it was the contact between the +12V tip of the plug and the (West Marine) receptacle. I think its because the plug can move slightly in the receptacle and the tip, which is sprung, can lose contact even if nothing is moving.

I discovered this on a weekend trip so at the time I removed the plug and connected the wires directly into the distribution box. I later replaced the plug with a Radio Shack one which has been reliable. At some point I'll replace both with a more robust connector.

Cheers,
Graham

I hate cig lighter plugs, so I've installed one of the RIGrunner distribution blocks in mine.

I carry an adapter to still be able to plug in a cig lighter plug just in case we want to loan out the fridge or use it in another vehicle.

is there a slide that can be adapted to work with the Edgestar 43 quart fridge or do I have to come up with a homebrew solution?

edit to add: I need the slide to pull out sideways, not lengthwise like most of the slides I've found in my search.

Well my problem was the plug. I taped it in place and it did not shut off all day. But now I moved it from the trailer to the truck and the 12v dosent work  It went from 38 to 61 degrees so I plugged it back into the trailer and still nothing. When I plug it into 120v compressor starts right up. Called edgestar they told me to take the face plate off and crimp all the wires at the connections with needle nose pliers. No luck the compressor kicks on for half a sec and then never comes on again. But works fine on AC. Anyone else have this problem??? Im supposed to leave for a trip in the morning and of course its a holiday weekend so no one will be there to answer phones at compact apliances.:(

Can you confirm that the fridge doesn't run if you unscrew the halves of the plug and connect the wires directly to a 12V source?

If the 12V circuit truly is broken, the only thing I can think of that might save the weekend is an inverter. Definitely not the optimum solution but it might be worth a try.

Cheers,
Graham
