sounds like the converter might be bad in yours, unless there is a hidden fuse somewhere that might have blown. if you can find another 12v power supply that would fit in there, you might be able to make it work. or, you might be able to find an external one, and pull the factory one out to save a bit of weight, then you'd just plug the 12v socket into your home converter when the fridge isn't in the truck.

Yeah, I have been looking at this That way I can just keep it running all the time, Or create an EXPO favorite, a Beer filled coffee table.

I am a little confused about the removal of the power converter though, is the entire electronics box on the left side (the one that has the strip of screw on electric connections) just the power converter, because removing that alone could create a lot of space.

it only has problems staying cool in direct sunlight.

i was having an odd temp problem with mine after i got it, maybe worth a try for you too? i ended up taking the control box apart and found a small crack in one of the solder joints for the temp sender, re-soldered it and its been perfect.

well I broke the handle on mine this past weekend. I guess it is time to figure out how to better secure the thing in the back.

Did I read that Compact Appliance sells parts for them?

Call the number for Edgestar either in the manual or easier yet on the sticker on the fridge itself. They will sell parts for them (I've gotten both AC and DC power units for mine...don't ask).

As for fixing the cracked solder joint...that is great information, and thanks for sharing! I recently did the same thing on the starter relay for my 18 year-old Honda.

If you have not already, can you tell us an update? Is it still running? Is it noisy? Any complain?

I"m coming up on 2 years ownership with mine. It has been running non-stop almost all of those 2 years either in the back of the Jeep or in my garage. It is a little louder now than it was when it was new,But nothing horrible though. I can't say that I have abused this fridge but it has survived several offroad excursions and still keeps chugging away at keeping stuff cold. I will say one thing the insulation isn't that great. They do need a blanket if it is hot out as it will run alot trying to keep stuff cold. For me, this budget fridge has more than paid for itself so I can't complain. It has done what I expected it to do..

Grrrr, so far I love the unit.....but it's kinda scaring me here. Hahaha. I had it in my truck for about 3 weeks straight. No problem. 3 Weeks ago, The DAY I was packing up to leave for a 3 day Mojave road trip.....I go to put items in it...and it's off. Huh? Ended up being the fuse in the cig lighter tip of the cord. OK..worked great...took it out....put it in my garage with my camping stuff.....then last Sat I pulled it out to run to the desert for the day to go shooting. Won't turn on....huh?? The tip of the cord is broken...the part where it goes into the unit...broke off. I'm positive I never manhandled it. Looked on the website and they want $50 for a new cord! Ouch. Hoping they'll send me another gratis. I'll update after I call them. But what the heck? Do I have a black cloud over my head? So far the first two times I went to actually use it I have some kind of issue. hahhaha

My cord is broken too but it was my fault. I haven't looked hard yet but there has to be an aftermarket supplier for this type of cord. All I really need is the end piece as I could reattach it to the cord. Any ideas?

My cord also broke and blew a fuse. I hit the cord with my foot while the unit was on the ground. The plug end that sticks into the side broke in half, I used some JB weld and glued it back together, works fine now.:ylsmoke:

This the cord you are looking for? Just cut the 120v end off and wire to a 12V socket...should work fine :)
