Check this out, it's called the Krawler Hauler

I guess if you have a non-stretched Jeep, you need all the space you can get? I bet the tires weigh more than the gear it can carry?

I agree it's limited, however it gave me an idea. Why couln't you build a basic frame and suspension, and purchase two knack tool boxes to mount on the frame? They would have lids to keep everything protected, and you can get them in various sizes depending on your needs.

Cool idea... I wouldn't fit my needs but I can see it being a perfect fit for some.

You could probably do that. Heck, if the trailer was light enough, you don't even need suspension, just run like 5psi in the tires and they are a balloon suspension.

What I don't get, is he built this tinee tiny trailer, and still has a load of crap on the roof. Why not build a bigger trailer and get all that weight off the roof.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Why not build it slightly larger so that you wouldn't need to stack everything on the roof as well. I'm looking to build something similar just slightly larger to fit most of my gear.

That’s exactly why I want to build a trailer; I don’t want to put anything on my roof, because I want to keep my center of gravity low. My concern regarding no suspension is how it would handle on black top at freeway speeds?

Yeah it's small but would fit my needs for most of the stuff I do. The price seems reasonable considering it comes with all of that gear. Of course, if you have good fab skills you could make something similar.

Yeah, I dunno... they do build some trailers that way, cement mixers, etc.

If the trailer is small enough, and you're running 35" tires, suspension seems almost pointless because a 3500lb axle and those tires will be almost as much unsprung weight as the whole trailer itself. You're also not going to get much suspension action from a 500lb trailer on a 2000lb suspension either.

The stuff about articulation for off-road trailers... I don't buy it. It's a tripod vehicle, it will always sit flat relative to the points under the wheels and the tongue height. It's not like a 4 wheeled vehicle that NEEDS flexibility. I guess this opinion comes from years of driving a three wheeler with NO suspension, just balloon tires. That thing is still capable of going anywhere any ATV can go, and you don't need a winch because it only weighs 150lbs.

You only need suspension for high speed bump absorbtion. I just don't know how well LT tires will work because they're stiff. If the trailer was 500lbs, you could probably run it on the roads with 10psi, and take the valve core right out off-road. If only dirt ingress weren't a problem.

I like the Boxrocket trailer as a really simple design that's easy to build and scalable to your needs.

I agree, the box rocket is a nice simple design, however, I would make one change and turn it into a fleet side trailer instead of the step side.

In my opinion, two Knaak boxes welded together would not need a frame. Just fasten a tongue and an axle.

nice thought on welding the two boxes together but the metal is still to thin, you would tear the boxes to pieces right next to the welds. A sub frame is still required to handle the hits the trailer will be taking..... Thomas

i think it may work for the Jeep crowd. It looks like a neat accessory for the TJ's and similar. however, it looks like all the disadvantages of a trailer on the trail with none of the advantages!
I would want fully enclosed cargo space so everything is not fully wet/dirty. Even on the roof, there is so much dust that I no longer use a roofrack to store items (roofbox is mucho better).
there is no "workspace" for cooking or anything else...

it holds so little that it seems to weigh more than it can usefully carry. even if it's rated for 1400lbs, how are you ever going to fit 1400lbs of stuff on there?

i really like the minimal approach but maybe this is too minimal! or maybe it is a good foundation for further customization...

I definitely agree that it is too small, however, there are some ideas regarding the accessories that I might integrate into my trailer.

I like the idea of having an on board water tank & electric pump underneath out of the way, and the way the tongue folded up and turned into a trailer stand, I thought was a cool idea.
It is one of those things that are not for everyone, but I’m sure it fit some body’s needs, and that’s why they built it.
