Cheepsk8’s 2001 burb

So I’ve decided to buy and build a 2001 2500 (not hd) suburban. The one thing I didn’t like about it is, the captains chairs in the second row. Well, I went out and removed the third row and slid the second row forward. There is just enough room for me to lay down in the back! Just barely though. Then I discovered, this might be better if it’s raining and I want to sit in a chair without having to climb over the front seats.

Now to figure out how to arrange for my 4yr old to sleep.

cheepsk8,

I am glad that you are adventuring with a little one. My wife and I used a Regalo My Cot for the back of the truck when we only had one kiddo, there is plenty of room for it to fit in the back with the third row removed.

I don't have any pics of it in the truck cause I have the 3rd row in right now but it folds up out of the way great and can be used outside the truck too.

Hope this helps.

Took it to town today to have the oil changed as it has been raining all day. I also picked up a Haynes manual for it. After coming home, I decided to check how well it would cross my test ditch. To my surprise, it did pretty good. Then I went back to the glove box and found the G80 code that I overlooked when buying it. Also I test lowered the spare as I have had bad luck with them alongside the interstate when it was raining.

Thanks crazy. The wife and I are planning on sleeping back there. I might make a shelf for him across the middle seats or something. Plywood is cheap enough.

It probably ought to be stickied somewhere that if you get a GMT800 truck, the first think you should do is make sure you can lower the spare. My "secondary latch" was rusted shut, hard and I was absolutely unable to free it. That's the bad news.

The good news is that I didn't find out in the middle of the night in the middle of the road in the pouring rain. I found out on a nice sunny day in my driveway. I ended up having to grind one of the "ears" off the hanger to get the spare down. As soon as I did I got rid of the old spare tire carrier and replaced it with a brand new one that doesn't have the dreaded "secondary latch."

Well, last night the wife and I trial fitted some old couch cushions in the back of the burb. Of coarse the little one saw this and decided we should camp in there. So we did. About the time I was about to fall asleep, he decided to come inside. I was too tired so I stayed.

I wish the second row seats would go four more inches forward as then I could cram a full size mattress in there. I guess I’ll be looking for a bench seat after all.

cheepsk8,

Don't give up on that full size mattress just yet. A futon full size mattress fits behind the captains seats perfectly. Make sure you get yourself at least an 8" thick one. We spent two years traveling with the Sub in that configuration.

Good luck.

this weekend we took the old gal out. We went to Green Mountain and then to Lander Wy. We stayed in the park Friday night. In the morning, we checked out the farmers market and headed to Atlantic City and South Pass. We toured the old town of South Pass then, took a tour of Carissa mine. Today (Sunday) we headed home and took a couple detours.

South Pass city is an old goldmining town that is 150 years old. We paid the $2.00 entry fee (per state resident, $4.00 for non res) and went to tour the old town.

A bunch of the old Carissa Mine. A lot of red tape had to be dealt with from the D. E. Q. and, Dept. of Abandoned Mines to get this to the stage it is now just to be able to be toured.
From the road;
