Chevy Express AWD - Front Pinion seal leak

Hi all,
I've got a 2006 Express AWD with 105k and the front pinion seal started leaking.
I watched a few videos on how to do but it seems a little involved with a puller and high torque on the nut.

Previous owner had the seal replaced by a corner shop mechanic ~5k miles ago but it leaks again.

Any advise if I should try to do it myself or take to the dealer/mechanic?
Thank you
Christian

I have had this problem as well, about every 5-10k miles, but my van has over 270k on her. After the second time I stopped replacing the seal and just add a little gear oil every oil change.

It is not hard to do if you have an 1/2" impact, 1/2" torque wrench, the right sockets, snap ring pliers, etc. but...it won't solve the problem.

Later model years have a rubber wear shaft on the yoke that can be replaced, others you will have to replace the yoke itself to solve the problem. The seal keeps blowing out because the shaft where it rides has gotten grooved.

I'm about to re-gear and rebuild both axles on my van in the next few weeks. I have all the parts collected, just waiting to get some time. When I do I will try to take some pictures and will be able to get some more detailed instructions for posterity.
