Choosing my first overland vehicle

lR3 would probably be a good choice but parts are higher and mileage likely lower than a newer pro-4x xterra. I bought a new X in 2006 (OR model MT) drove that for 82k miles, then bought a 2012 Pro-4x MT. Good space, decent mileage and comfortable for me (seats are very adjustable and it takes some seat time to get them right). I like to sit up with a lower floor rather than have the seat right on the floor and my legs out front. Its perfect for me, and is an animal off road.

I drove a bunch in the past 2 weeks; an LR4, several more discos, a Land cruiser and was about to pull the trigger on a used Pro-4X today at least in part because of the difference in mpg, but to me it seemed like the 2006 land cruiser with 100k miles was holding up better than the xterra with 30k. Granted I don't know the history of either vehicle, but I could see left over muddy water splatter on the under side of the Xterra ' s hood. Still the LR3/4 and Land Cruiser felt so much more stable on the road. So I'm patiently working my way towards the right LR3. The discos are great although less planted on the highway.

Buy what you feel you will like and then for sure keep the Mini at all cost.

I'm partial to Rovers and enjoy driving them.

Yet there are many choices out there from which to choose.
