classic range rover diesel conversion

its becuse they have larger wind caching area. on our trucks we cant use that large radiator. our only option is to make it thicker. radiators work better when they have larger wind catching face. on chevy tyucks its 3 core but 40+ inches long and 30+ inches high. on our trucks its about 18 inches high and 24 inch long.

in general disel motor does not get hot all the way during idle or normal street driving, but when it comes to goin hard up hill then it gets really hot. much more than gas engine . thats the problem we are dealing with.

remember our engine bay is not made to handle 6.2 diesel large motor. thats why we have to make it work using funs.and larger radiators

but if they can cool off >>nucliar power plant << then for sure we can make 6.2 diesel motor run cooler :)

Thank you for the explanation , earlier i was looking at one of your pictures of the engine and i see it is not a serpentine and i was looking at those pulleys about how large and if you swap to the serpentine type you might be able to save an 1.5 inch for your dual fan set up (i do not know if you can swap it ).

Right now it's just direct drive fan off the main pulley. The fan is small and I can't go bigger because it'll hit the frame crossmember. No shroud.

This week I'm going radiator shopping.

6.2 guys are saying with headers they're seeing up to 2mpg more... but I gotta fix my heat problems first.

NO DONT CHANGE YOUR RADIATOR YET. get a nice electric fun with fun shroud,(the one from ford crovn viky) is very large and strong. or from the volvo. and ad another elecric fun in front. it will give u 50% more cooling power, why do u wanna spend 500 or more bucks when u may not need to

fun shroud alone will give u 25% better cooling.

The Chevy 3 core I have in there looks like crap because I had to cut out the passenger side battery tray. Then I had to relocate that battery to where the windshield washer reservoir is -- and then I have to run battery cables across the entire engine to hook up the 2nd battery (driverside battery tray).

I want to get a radiator like you have (and I had) -- and then run a dual optima in just one battery tray. I wonder if they'll fit.

You saying the Crown Vic shroud will fit?

i remeber in one of your d1 pictures u had a nice aluminum radiator. did u get rid of it?

crown vivky fun and shroud is what my friend has on his rrc. veryyy strog one.
but i like the volvo fun. its thiner not to wide and blows as strong.

the radiator i have is 500 bucks. but fits right in place.

i am sure he will. all we have to do is find another used radiator from pick ur part 30 bucks. and he can cut and make one.

radiators r the same for classic and d1

Hey Eric,

I'm also thinking about putting AC in -- problem is the only available pulley is the one on the vaccum pump... and there's no way to put the compressor on that side of the engine as far as I can tell. It would have to go on the passenger side, but then there's no pulley access... Any ideas?

I'd like to use a DA style compressor but the pulleys I have are the older V style, and the stock AC that came with these are the giant axial ones.

A friend of mine suggested electric AC, like they have in the Toyota Prius..

well my vacum pump is on top of the engine its a gear driven unit. u can change to that, it was 90 bucks brand new. this way u can get rid of that pump and put ac compressor.

i have the range rover original ac compressor i am gonna see if it is posible to use that.

electric compressor is also good. but u need strong alternator.

i will ask aroud and see how good those electric units are.

Regarding the over-heating, another option you have is adding a "water wetter" to the coolant. Stock cars can't run antifreeze as it leaves a residue on the track, so racers run a water reducing addative that really works, reducing temps by as much as 25*.
